Open Education Media Assistant
Lydia M. Olson Library seeks a student to work with the Course Affordability Working Group to to tell the story of Open Education on NMU’s campus, encouraging faculty, staff, and students to utilize no and low cost course materials, including open education resources (OER) and open pedagogy.
In this position, the student will:
- Assist the chair of the Working Group with implementing the campus communication strategy for Open Pedagogy and course affordability.
- Produce short, engaging videos that effectively convey the benefits of OER and open pedagogy to distinct campus audiences (e.g., faculty, students, staff).
- Design a suite of social media posts that highlight course affordability efforts and open pedagogy initiatives at NMU.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of digital media creation on platforms such as Adobe Express or Camtasia
- Digital editing experience with video clips up to ten minutes
- Demonstrated experience with social media creation including Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok
- Experience engaging audiences on social media platforms through creating strong narratives
- Excellent project management skills to consistently meet deadlines
- Command of basic computer skills (G Suite) and ability to use and learn additional software as needed
- Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written)
- Ability to perform detail-oriented tasks with accuracy and efficiency
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to collaborate with diverse groups
- Willingness to learn new skills
Desired Qualifications
- Strong functional knowledge of social media principles, practices, and the desire to apply that knowledge in a professional environment
- Basic understanding of introductory marketing and communications principles (this could be obtained through coursework or class projects)
- Experience with or interest in accessibility services
- Working knowledge of copyright guidelines and Creative Commons Licensing
- Strong problem-solving skills
