Teacher Assistant - Mater Columbus

Position Summary

The Teacher Assistant supports classroom instruction by assisting the lead teacher in implementing lesson plans, managing classroom activities, and providing additional support to students. This role plays a vital part in creating a positive, safe, and engaging learning environment that promotes student success.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the classroom teacher with daily instructional activities and lesson implementation
• Assist individual students or small groups with academic, behavioral, or social needs
• Help prepare instructional materials, learning aids, and classroom resources
• Supervise students during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, and recess as needed
• Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment
• Observe and document student progress and share feedback with the teacher
• Assist with classroom management and behavior reinforcement strategies
• Support students with special needs in accordance with individualized education plans (IEPs), when applicable
• Perform clerical and administrative tasks such as grading papers, organizing files, and maintaining records
• Follow school policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s degree or college coursework in education preferred)
• Ability to work effectively with children of various ages and learning levels
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, reliability, and a positive attitude
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
• Basic computer skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience working in a classroom or educational setting
• Knowledge of child development and classroom management techniques
• Experience supporting students with special needs or diverse learning styles
• CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
