Elementary School Teacher

Position Summary

The Elementary School Teacher (K–2) provides foundational instruction in core academic subjects while supporting the social, emotional, and developmental growth of young learners. The teacher creates a structured, engaging classroom environment aligned with California state standards and district curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum

• Plan and deliver standards-based lessons aligned with the California Common Core State Standards.
• Teach foundational skills in reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies.
• Use developmentally appropriate instructional strategies for early learners.
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, including English learners and students with IEPs or 504 plans.

Classroom Environment

• Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom culture.
• Implement effective classroom management strategies appropriate for young children.
• Promote social-emotional learning, cooperation, and problem-solving skills.

Assessment & Data Use

• Assess student progress using formative and summative assessments.
• Monitor early literacy and numeracy development.
• Use data to guide instruction and provide targeted interventions.

Communication

• Maintain regular communication with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs.
• Conduct parent-teacher conferences.
• Collaborate with colleagues, specialists, and administration.

Professional Responsibilities

• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning.
• Maintain accurate student records and comply with district and state reporting requirements.
• Follow all school, district, and state policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required:

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
• English Learner Authorization (e.g., CLAD or equivalent).
• Knowledge of early childhood development and instructional strategies.

Preferred:

• Prior teaching experience in K–2.
• Experience with literacy frameworks (e.g., phonics-based instruction).
• Familiarity with Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) or similar systems.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Strong understanding of child development (ages 4–8).
• Ability to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
• Effective classroom management and behavior support skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to integrate technology into instruction.

Working Conditions

• Classroom-based setting in an elementary school.
• Frequent standing, walking, and interaction with young children.
