About ExpertMatch
ExpertMatch connects consulting firms, private equity teams, and investment firms with paid subject-matter experts for short, focused calls. The product is live and in pilot.
Our thesis is a segmentation argument. The large expert networks — GLG, AlphaSights, Third Bridge — are built for enterprise clients with enterprise volume. Small and mid-size firms can't justify that pricing, and those networks can't profitably serve them. Both sides of that mismatch point at an underserved market. We think that's where we should be.
We need someone to find out whether that's actually true.
Projects
Competitor analysis. A complete, standing reference document on GLG, AlphaSights, Tegus, Third Bridge, Guidepoint and others: how each is structured, what they charge, how they price it, who they serve, where their model creates friction. This becomes a document we maintain and use, not a one-off deck.
Market segmentation and sizing. Build the tiered picture — from bulge-bracket consulting and mega-funds down through mid-market firms, boutiques, and family offices. How many firms per tier, what research spend, what call volume. The central question: at what firm size does incumbent pricing stop working for the buyer and stop being worth serving for the seller? That crossover is the thing we most want to find and defend.
Willingness to pay. Talk to firms in the segments we think are underserved. What do they pay now, what would they pay, and what do they do when expert networks are out of reach?
Substitute analysis. What do these firms actually do instead? Personal networks, cold LinkedIn outreach, former colleagues, transcript services? Our real competitor may be "they do it themselves, badly," rather than any named company.

What we're looking for
Economics, finance, business, or similar background. Doesn't have to be your major; it can be coursework or demonstrated interest in some way.
Genuinely good at research: finding sources, judging what's credible, and synthesizing into something usable.
Comfortable reaching out to strangers if you take on the willingness-to-pay work.
Willing to tell us our thesis is wrong if the evidence says so. That's the point of the role.
Direct work with the founder. This research shapes who we go after and feeds directly into investor conversations.
Who should apply
This is built for current or rising freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Seniors and master's students are welcome to apply too, though we know that year tends to be crowded.
