About the Role
We are looking for a thoughtful, creative, and highly motivated Communications & Public Relations Intern to support TBD Investors and its portfolio companies.
Our companies are entering new markets, opening locations, launching services, completing acquisitions, hiring teams, attending industry events, and reaching important growth milestones. Each of these developments creates opportunities to communicate with customers, employees, industry partners, journalists, and local communities.
You may work primarily with one portfolio company or support communications projects involving several businesses. Each intern will be assigned defined workstreams, measurable objectives, and a primary manager.
This is not an observational internship. You will research stories, develop messaging, create communications materials, and produce work that companies can actually use.
What You’ll Do
Depending on portfolio needs and your experience, responsibilities may include:
Drafting press releases, media pitches, company announcements, newsletters, executive communications, and website content
Developing stories about entrepreneurs, acquisitions, company launches, growth milestones, employees, and community impact
Researching journalists, podcasts, conferences, awards, and industry publications
Building and maintaining targeted media and communications lists
Supporting media outreach, speaking opportunities, award submissions, and conference participation
Interviewing executives, employees, customers, clinicians, and other stakeholders
Translating complex business, healthcare, and technical subjects into clear and engaging language
Monitoring relevant news, media coverage, and industry conversations
Helping companies develop messaging for new services, markets, locations, and partnerships
Supporting internal communications and employer-branding initiatives
Preparing communications calendars and tracking deadlines, deliverables, and results
Helping maintain a consistent voice and message across different communications channels
Example Projects
Projects could include:
Developing a communications plan for the opening of a new pediatric therapy, behavioral-health, or medical location
Drafting an announcement about an acquisition, partnership, executive hire, or company milestone
Creating a media strategy for a portfolio-company CEO or industry expert
Researching journalists and publications covering healthcare, entrepreneurship, maritime, or essential services
Preparing a portfolio company for an industry conference, podcast, or media interview
Developing an award submission or speaking proposal
Interviewing employees or customers and turning their experiences into compelling stories
Creating a communications toolkit that portfolio companies can use for future announcements
Supporting internal communications during a company integration, expansion, or organizational change
Helping improve the messaging and written content on a portfolio company’s website
