The Grand Rapids Chamber Orchestra is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented intern to help with Grant Writing and Research as we build and grow a new professional chamber orchestra in Grand Rapids.
This role is ideal for a student or early-career professional interested in nonprofit management, fundraising, communications, writing, arts administration, or community development who would like hands-on experience with grant research and proposal development.
The Grant Writer will work closely with GRCO leadership to research funding opportunities, prepare grant applications, organize supporting materials, and help build a sustainable grant-funding strategy.
Responsibilities may include:
- Researching foundation, corporate, government, and community grant opportunities
- Identifying grants that align with GRCO’s mission and programming
- Maintaining a grant calendar with deadlines and application requirements
- Drafting and editing grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting narratives
- Gathering organizational information, budgets, program details, and other required materials
- Maintaining records of submitted applications and funding decisions
- Assisting with grant reports and follow-up materials
- Helping GRCO develop reusable grant language and application materials
- Communicating clearly about deadlines, requirements, and needed information
Previous grant-writing experience is helpful but not required. We are happy to work with someone who has strong research and writing skills and is interested in gaining practical grant-writing experience.
Time Commitment: Approximately 0–4 hours per week, with little to no work some weeks and additional time occasionally needed around major grant deadlines.
