FIRST Robotics Instructor/Coach (Part-Time)
Jubilate Education – Torrance, CA 90503
Compensation: $22+/hour (negotiable based on experience)
Jubilate Education, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing STEM education opportunities to students in our local South Bay, is seeking a FIRST Lego Robotics Instructor & Coach to instruct our curriculum for foundational courses and/or mentor teams of 5+ students in G4-8.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor students in designing, building, and programming competitive robots throughout upcoming FIRST Lego League Challenge seasons
- Foster an encouraging & inclusive team dynamic with students of different ages &
- Teach engineering, design, and/or programming principles, including block-based coding, LEGO Technic-based designs, and basic research & presentation skills
- Nurture an inclusive, innovative, and problem-solving team environment
- Guide students through the engineering design process, competition strategy, and iterative development
- Initiate improvements to current curriculum/seasonal plans and team organization with leadership oversight
- Guide students in researching, developing, and presenting a poster research demonstration based on the season theme
- Ensure the team adheres to FIRST Core Values and Gracious Professionalism
- Assist students in preparing for competitions, including documentation, presentations, and teamwork
- Coordinate and supervise occasional after-school meetings and competition events
- Discuss with team mentors and department leadership to review team goals and organize session materials
Qualifications
Required:
- Receiving or received Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Engineering, Computer Science, or a STEM-related field or relevant and equivalent experience in the FIRST Robotics Program (FRC or FTC)
- Strong knowledge of programming languages (Python)
- Excellent problem-solving, initiative, and communication skills
- Passionate with empowering & working with students of all backgrounds
Preferred:
- Experience in FIRST Lego League (FLL Challenge) or FIRST programs (FRC, FTC) as a coach, mentor, or participant is highly desired
- 1+ years of teaching, mentoring, or working with G4-10 students in an engaging and fast-paced environment is preferred
- Experience in Introductory Computer Aided Design (Fusion, Onshape, etc.) is a plus
- Ability to motivate and inspire students while maintaining a structured and engaging learning environment
Job Details:
- Part-time role (6-12 hours) during scheduled after-school sessions on weekdays or weekends
- Competitive hourly pay, starting at $22/hour (negotiable based on experience).
- Located in Torrance, CA.
