Fall 2026 | Student Work Study: Research Assistant

Job Description 

The Meadows Center for Water and the Environment is looking for an enthusiastic, reliable individual interested in working in water quality research and willing to learn new skills to fill a student Research Assistant position within the Watershed Studies division. The selected applicant will primarily assist with water quality monitoring research projects for the Texas Stream Team program. The position may assist with project management, research, and program organization and development. The below includes detailed job responsibilities: 

• Assist with Texas Stream Team water quality monitoring field work, lab work, and research. 
• Assist with monitor engagement including: email correspondence, scheduling, etc. 
• Assist with meeting notes and project coordination.  
• Basic tasks to sustain program operations and organization such as data entry, creating and updating records, scanning, filing, and sorting.  
• Compiling information upon request. 
• All other duties as assigned by supervisor 

The pay for this position is $14-15 per hour depending on work study award. Please read the Required Qualifications to determine if you qualify for this position. If minimum requirements are not meant the application will not be reviewed. 

 Required Qualifications: 

The below are required qualifications needed to be considered for this position: 

• Applicants must have availability during the hours of 8 a.m.- 5 p.m. on Fridays and be willing to work occasional weekends.  
• Must be willing to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. 
• Experience and skilled in Microsoft software (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) 
• Must be comfortable working on and around water 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Although not required, applicants with the below experience will be favored. 

• Available to work for two years (dependent upon funding availability). 
• Trained Texas Stream Team community scientist. 

Location

Students without a vehicle must have a reliable method of transportation to get to work location. The Meadows Center is now accessible through Texas State’s Bobcat Shuttle system, providing an additional transportation option for students who do not have a vehicle. Students should review available shuttle routes and schedules to plan their commute accordingly.
