About Savoir Faire
Savoir Faire Marketing & Communications is a boutique agency in Manchester, New Hampshire, in its 19th year. We work with a roster of long term clients in industries most agencies find complicated: death care, precision manufacturing, healthcare and eldercare, nonprofits, and regional service businesses. Our clients do not have internal marketing departments. We function as their marketing team.
That means we go deep rather than wide. We are not a high volume shop producing interchangeable content for clients we barely know. Our people learn the businesses they write for, the way an in-house marketer would.
The small team is made up of mid-career professionals who love what they do and who have worked for the company for between 6 and 17 years. If you’re a good fit, you can plan to settle in and get comfortable.
About the Role
We are hiring a Content Developer to write and produce content across a portfolio of client accounts: blog, web, email, social, events, and PR. You will work alongside a second content developer, an internal account and traffic lead, and specialists in design, development, SEO, and paid media.
This is a working seat on a small team, not a solo writing assignment. Read the next section carefully.
How This Role Actually Works
This is not a point and shoot freelance writing job. Nobody is going to feed you a stack of briefs so you can disappear and write. If that is what you are looking for, this role will frustrate you and won’t be a great match for us.
Here is what the work actually looks like:
- You become a subject matter expert in our clients' businesses. You will learn enough to write with authority and to catch when something is off.
- You go get the information. A lot of what we write does not exist on paper anywhere. It lives in the head of a busy client. You will be on calls and in emails with those people, asking good questions and extracting what you need to develop content from those questions.
- You generate ideas, not just execute them. You will get direction and guardrails: brand voice, strategy, SEO targets, campaign goals. Within those, you are expected to bring content ideas that align with the client/company goals to the table.
- You are in meetings. Team meetings, brainstorms, content planning sessions, occasional client calls. Collaboration is part of the deliverable, not a distraction from it.
- You own the administrative side of your own work. Every piece of content comes with process: tasks, briefs, deadlines, approval routing, revision tracking, publishing, documentation. The work lives in Asana, our project management system. You'll share updates on your tasks and ongoing work in Asana. If project management and PM tools feel like overhead to you, this is not the right fit.
- You contribute to agency projects beyond writing. Process improvements, content systems, editorial calendars, and the occasional internal initiative. We welcome your contributions.
What You Will Write
Blog and Web
- Blog posts across accounts on varying schedules and SEO needs, ranging from 2 to 4 posts per month across the client list
- Website copy, plus ongoing website content work to support SEO, against quarterly targets per account
- Gated and downloadable assets end to end: landing pages, thank you pages, autoresponders, and promotional emails
- Long form content such as brochures, e-books and guides, identified through quarterly performance reporting
- Email campaigns, newsletters, and quarterly outlook emails, including full and segmented sends and A/B testing as required
Social
- Drafting and scheduling social content (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram) on a daily to weekly cadence depending on the account
Events and Campaigns
- Supporting content for webinars, seminars, and other event types: flyers, landing pages, registration, autoresponders, promo emails
- Seasonal and annual campaign content across blog, email, and landing pages
PR and Outreach
- Media pitch development and outreach to industry publications
- Press releases as needed
Account Rotation and Ramp Up
New content developers ramp up on a quarterly rotation. For your first quarter you are dedicated to one family of accounts while the other content developer covers the rest. You review and edit each others’ work. In the second quarter you swap. By roughly six months in, both of you are fluent across the full roster and can flex to cover either side.
You should be comfortable shifting tone, format, and subject matter across very different audiences inside the same week.
Location and Schedule
This engagement requires regular on-site work at our Manchester, New Hampshire office, which can be scheduled by mutual agreement. The weekly team meeting is Thursdays at noon and is non-negotiable. Candidates who cannot work on-site in Manchester on a regular basis will not be considered. This is deliberate. The collaboration described above happens in a room, not in a comment thread. Once you are up to speed and the working relationship is established, there is room to adjust the mix.
Tools and Platforms
- Asana. Our primary collaboration and task tracking tool, used every day.
- WordPress, Google Marketing Platform, Airtable, Google Workspace, SEMrush, Microsoft 365 and Teams.
You Are a Fit If
- You have 2 or more years of content writing or content marketing experience, ideally agency side or managing multiple accounts at once
- You write and edit well across registers, from technical B2B to consumer and nonprofit, and you can optimize for SEO, awareness, or education depending on the brand
- You are comfortable publishing content in WordPress
- You are genuinely curious about how businesses work, including unglamorous ones
- You can hold multiple concurrent accounts and shifting priorities without dropping deadlines
- You have used Asana or a comparable project management platform as a daily working tool, or you will pick one up fast and use it without being chased
- You are comfortable talking directly with clients and pulling information out of people who are busy and may hold information close to the vest
- You can work on-site in Manchester on a regular basis and provide transparency on your availability
Nice to Have
- Event marketing or PR and media pitching experience
- Familiarity with SEMrush or similar SEO tools
- Prior contract or agency freelance experience
This Is Not the Right Role If
- You want to be handed a complete brief and left alone until the draft is due
- You would rather not be on client calls
- Tracking your work in a shared system feels like busywork to you
- You are looking for fully remote work
- You need the strategy fully settled before you can start writing
None of that makes you a bad writer. It makes you a bad fit for this particular seat, and we should both determine that now.
What we Offer
- Collaborative, small-team environment
- Schedule flexibility
- Bring your whole self to work
How to Apply
Send the following to info@savoirfaire-us.com with the subject line "Content Developer":
- Your resume.
- Three writing samples, covering at least two distinct audiences or industries. Published links are fine. Explain in one line what the goal of each piece was.
- A short cover note, no more than one page, that answers two questions clearly:
- What project management or workflow tool have you used, and what did using it look like on a normal day?
- Describe a time you had to get information out of a subject matter expert who was busy, distracted, or not particularly interested in helping you. What did you actually do?
We read the cover note first. A strong answer to those two questions will get you further than a long list of credentials. Will we even open emails without the proper subject line? Try us.
