Grant Writing Intern
Position Summary
Internera is seeking a Grant Writing Intern to help research, develop, and track funding opportunities for Internera and its clients.
Working closely with company leadership, you will gain hands-on experience researching grants, preparing application materials, maintaining grant records, and supporting post-award reporting. Projects may support small-business growth, nonprofit initiatives, workforce development, community programs, and economic development.
This position is ideal for a strong writer and researcher who is organized, detail-oriented, and interested in learning how grant funding supports real organizations and projects.
Responsibilities
- Research local, state, federal, corporate, and foundation grants
- Evaluate funding opportunities for eligibility and alignment
- Maintain a database of grant requirements, deadlines, and funding cycles
- Draft proposals, applications, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents
- Develop clear narratives using information provided by leadership and clients
- Assist with project descriptions, budgets, and other application materials
- Review applications for completeness and accuracy
- Track submitted, pending, awarded, and declined applications
- Maintain organized grant files and documentation
- Collect information for grant reporting requirements
- Assist with post-award reports and compliance documentation
- Document project outcomes, community impact, and workforce-development efforts
- Participate in meetings and assist with additional grant-related projects
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a degree in Business, Communications, English, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, Political Science, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong research and analytical abilities
- Excellent organization, time management, and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with a team
- Ability to handle organizational and client information confidentially
- Proficiency with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Professional, academic, creative, or technical writing experience
- Familiarity with grant writing, fundraising, or proposal development
- Knowledge of nonprofits, economic development, government funding, workforce development, or small-business operations
- Experience using AI-assisted writing and research tools responsibly
- Previous internship, volunteer, or work experience in a nonprofit, government, education, or business setting
- Experience using spreadsheets, databases, and online research tools
Previous grant-writing experience is helpful but not required. We are willing to train a strong writer who is dependable, curious, and willing to learn.
