Fitness Instructor
Position Summary
The Fitness Instructor leads safe, engaging, and effective group fitness classes for UNI students, faculty, staff, and recreation members. Fitness Instructors create a welcoming and motivating environment while guiding participants through purposeful exercise and demonstrating proper techniques.
Instructors may lead a variety of group fitness formats, including HIIT, Cycling, Strength Training, and other fitness classes based on their training and qualifications.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead group fitness classes in a safe, energetic, and inclusive environment.
- Plan and deliver structured workouts that are appropriate for the class format and participant population.
- Use effective motivation, leadership, and communication techniques to create a positive class experience.
- Follow all Recreation Services policies, procedures, and safety standards.
- Participate in required training, meetings, continuing education, and evaluations.
- Help promote a positive, inclusive culture within UNI Recreation Services.
Qualifications
- Current or willingness to obtain a recognized group fitness instructor certification.
- Completion of UNI Recreation Services' Fitness Instructor certification or equivalent nationally recognized certification.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to motivate and lead groups in an energetic, professional manner.
- Previous group fitness, exercise, or leadership experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
The position requires the ability to actively participate in and demonstrate exercises, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and other physical movements associated with group fitness instruction. Instructors should be able to safely demonstrate the activities included in their assigned class formats.
