Marketing Communications Intern
The Marketing & Communications Intern will support the execution and quality control of GBC and UpSurge Baltimore’s external communications. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Marketing & Communications, this role will help ensure that public-facing materials are accurate, current, consistent, and aligned with established organizational and brand standards.
This is a junior, hands-on role suited to someone developing foundational skills in marketing and communications who is highly detail-oriented, organized, and eager to learn.
Key Responsibilities
External Communications & Quality Control
- Review public-facing communications, including social posts, event materials, newsletters, website content, and presentations, for accuracy, consistency, formatting, and alignment with established brand and editorial standards.
- Maintain and update recurring communications materials, templates, links, and digital content.
- Conduct routine checks of GBC and UpSurge websites and social channels to identify outdated, inconsistent, or incorrect information.
- Ensure approved logos, brand elements, organizational names, and other key information are used consistently across external materials.
- Support the team in preparing communications for distribution and flag issues or inconsistencies before they go public.
Content & Creative Support
- Create and adapt basic graphics and social content using Canva and established templates.
- Support the development of event promotion, social posts, newsletters, and other communications materials.
- Assist with basic photo and video capture and editing for events and social media.
- Help organize and maintain shared libraries of approved photos, videos, logos, templates, and other communications assets.
Digital & Campaign Support
- Assist with routine website, newsletter, social media, and event-registration content updates.
- Support the execution of promotional campaigns and event communications based on established plans and timelines.
- Help collect basic social, email, and campaign performance data.
- Research emerging content, social media, and digital communications practices and share relevant ideas with the team.
Qualifications
- Interest in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, design, or a related field.
- Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- Familiarity with social media and digital communications.
- Comfort learning Canva and other digital tools.
- Ability to manage deadlines, follow established standards, and incorporate feedback.
- Curiosity, good judgment, and a willingness to learn.
Preferred: Experience with Canva, social media content creation, video editing, Mailchimp, WordPress, or other digital communications platforms.
