Social Media Intern
Social Media & Content Intern — Open House Events
About the Internship
Open House Events is a Baltimore-based event company and DJ collective built around house music, community, and creating social experiences that bring people together.
We're looking for a Social Media & Content Intern who genuinely loves house music and wants hands-on experience in social media marketing, content creation, event marketing, and brand development.
This is a paid, part-time internship designed for a student interested in building real-world experience in the music and entertainment industry. You'll work directly with the Open House team and create content that is actually published across our Instagram and TikTok.
Because much of our content is captured at live events, we're looking for someone who is excited about house music and the culture surrounding it, but who also understands that attending an Open House event as part of this internship means you're there to work: finding great moments, meeting people, conducting interviews, capturing content, and telling the story of the event.
About Open House
Open House produces house-music events at venues and unique spaces throughout Baltimore, from outdoor day parties and waterfront events to nightlife experiences.
While music is at the center of what we do, Open House is about more than the DJ booth. We're building a community where people can meet, dance, socialize, and feel like they're part of something.
Our goal on social media is to capture that.
What You'll Do
As our Social Media & Content Intern, you'll help plan, capture, create, and publish content across Instagram and TikTok. You'll:
- Attend select Open House events throughout Baltimore and capture social-first vertical content
- Seek out the moments that tell the story of an event — friends meeting, people dancing, conversations, reactions, outfits, interactions, and the overall atmosphere
- Conduct short, casual on-camera interviews with attendees and DJs
- Capture DJ and music-focused content while keeping the broader Open House community at the center of the story
- Create and edit Instagram Reels and TikToks
- Produce approximately four short-form content pieces from each assigned event, including content about the event you're attending and content designed to promote upcoming Open House events
- Work from pre-planned concepts, scripts, interview questions, and shot lists
- Capture and publish Instagram Stories during events
- Help manage the Open House Instagram account and content calendar
- Draft captions and schedule/publish approved content
- Participate in short content-planning meetings before events
- Identify social trends and develop original concepts that fit the Open House brand
- Review content performance and use analytics to help determine what we should create next
- Organize captured footage for future campaigns
What You'll Learn
This internship will provide hands-on experience in:
- Social media strategy
- Short-form video production and editing
- Music and entertainment marketing
- Live-event content production
- Brand storytelling
- Content planning and campaign development
- On-camera interviewing
- Community-focused marketing
- Instagram and TikTok analytics
- Creating content designed to turn online attention into real-world attendance
You'll have the opportunity to build a portfolio of published content and real event-marketing campaigns, rather than only completing internal or hypothetical projects.
Who We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who is creative, social, dependable, and genuinely passionate about house music.
You may be a great fit if you:
- Genuinely enjoy house music and are interested in the culture surrounding it
- Are currently studying marketing, communications, digital media, film/video, public relations, advertising, or a related field
- Understand Instagram, TikTok, Reels, and short-form social content
- Are comfortable approaching and talking to people you don't know
- Can conduct quick interviews in a busy event environment
- Have experience editing video with CapCut, Premiere Pro, Final Cut, Canva, or similar software
- Have a strong eye for candid moments and visual storytelling
- Are comfortable taking initiative instead of waiting to be told every shot to capture
- Are interested in music, entertainment, event marketing, and community building
- Are reliable and able to travel to events throughout Baltimore
- Understand that event attendance is a working assignment and are comfortable remaining focused on content responsibilities throughout the event
Previous professional social-media experience is not required. We're more interested in your creativity, understanding of social media, reliability, and potential.
Schedule & Location
This is a paid, part-time internship with a flexible schedule based around the Open House event calendar.
Most editing, planning, and social-media work can be completed remotely.
The intern will also attend select Open House events throughout Baltimore, typically requiring approximately 5–6 hours of on-site coverage per event.
Expected workload is approximately 5–10 hours per week, although hours will vary depending on the event schedule.
Because this is an event-marketing internship, evening and weekend availability will be required for select events.
Compensation
$16/hour
All required event coverage, meetings, editing, content creation, and social-media management are paid working time.
Academic Credit
Open House Events is happy to work with the selected intern's college or university to complete applicable documentation, learning objectives, hour verification, and evaluations for academic internship credit.
Academic credit is determined by the student's institution.
How to Apply
Please submit your résumé through Handshake.
We're much more interested in seeing what you can create than how many followers you have.
Applicants are strongly encouraged to include 2–3 examples of content they've created, a portfolio, or links to relevant Instagram/TikTok accounts.
Professional experience isn't required. Personal content, school projects, event videos, music content, Reels, TikToks, or other work that demonstrates your creativity is welcome.
And tell us your favorite house artist or DJ.
