The State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Mental Health Assistant 2 to join the Hispanic Clinic - Substance Abuse Program at the Connecticut Mental Health Center (CMHC). This role provides direct support ot monolingual Spanish-speaking adults with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring disorders, so our ideal candidate will be fluent in both Spanish and English. DMHAS is a health care agency whose mission is to promote the overall health and wellness of persons with behavioral health needs through an integrated network of holistic, comprehensive, effective, and efficient services and supports that foster dignity, respect, and self-sufficiency in those we serve.
CMHC is an urban community mental health center with a 50-year history of serving individuals with serious mental illness and addiction. Established in 1966 as a partnership between DMHAS and the Yale Department of Psychiatry, CMHC is nationally recognized for its research through the Abraham Ribicoff Research Facilities and serves as a major training site for future professionals in psychiatry, psychology, social work, nursing, and pastoral care.
The Hispanic Clinic of CMHC provides outpatient mental health services to monolingual Spanish-speaking adults in New Haven. With a capacity of up to 400 registered clients and a continual increase in referrals from community providers, the clinic plays a critical role in delivering trauma-informed, culturally specific, and recovery-oriented care. Services include individual therapy, group treatment, case management, medication management, psychosocial skill development, and comprehensive community-based support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE
- Three (3) years of experience at the level of a Mental Health Assistant 1.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SUBSTITUTIONS ALLOWED
- College training in mental health technology, a behavioral science, social work, rehabilitation therapy or its equivalent may be substituted for the General Experience on the basis of fifteen (15) semester hours equalling one-half (1/2) year of experience to a maximum of two (2) years.
- Completion of a mental health trainee certificate program may be substituted for one-half (1/2) year of the General Experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish and English (oral and written).
- Experience working with culturally diverse communities, particularly Latino/a or Spanish-speaking clients.
- Experience providing direct support to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness and co-occurring substance use disorders.
- Experience coordinating multiple client needs in an outpatient or community setting.
- Experience conducting or supporting case management activities.
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary behavioral health team.
- Experience documenting client behavior, progress, or interventions in clinical or behavioral health settings.
