About the Role

This is a hands-on engineering role. As a Manufacturing Engineer at Fortec US, you will own the transition of new products from Engineering into Production, building and testing prototypes yourself, documenting how they are built, and training the Production team to build them at volume. You will be responsible for the design and manufacture of fixtures and jigs used during manufacturing processes. You will perform first article inspections on new and custom components, and document the inspection criteria QC will use on repeat orders.

You will work across a high mix, low-to-mid volume product line, with your time split roughly 50% between the Production floor and the Engineering office.

This role is a deliberate on-ramp. Displays are a specialized field involving optical bonding, backlighting, video controllers, touch integration, and ruggedization. The fastest way to learn them is to build the products yourself. A successful hire spends 12 to 18 months developing that fluency on the floor and in the lab, then moves into a system design role, owning customer display systems from requirements to a production ready design.

You will report to the Engineering and Production Supervisor and work on-site at our Ronkonkoma, NY facility. 

What You’ll Do

• Build prototypes and test electro-mechanical assemblies
• Author and maintain Work Instructions, and train Production staff to them
• Design custom fixtures and tooling for assembly processes
• Perform Engineering first article inspections of new product
• Improve production processes for quality, throughput, and repeatability
• Troubleshoot non-conforming product to the component level and drive corrective action
• Author Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) and maintain the Configuration Management system
• Document designs and manufacturing sequences, including 3D models and drawings
• Perform other related duties as assigned

What You’ll Bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
• 1–5 years of relevant experience preferred; recent graduates are encouraged to apply
• Demonstrated electro-mechanical troubleshooting ability
• Comfortable communicating with everyone from Production staff to senior management
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• 3D CAD modeling experience, ideally SolidWorks

Nice to Have

• Experience transitioning products from Engineering into Production
• Hands-on experience in a product assembly environment
• Experience working in a manufacturing ERP system
• Working knowledge of manufacturing methods — machining, sheet metal, bonding, and similar
• Understanding of hardware design and common failure modes
• Firmware development and management experience
• Experience with 3D printing

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role is based both on the Production floor and in the Engineering office. Expect to stand or walk for extended periods, work with hand and power tools, and lift up to 50 lbs. ESD-safe practices are required in designated areas. Some work is performed in an ISO Class 7 cleanroom. Gowning and cleanroom protocol are required in that area, and training is provided.

Compensation and Benefits

$70,000 – $90,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
