St. Louis Catholic Academy - Tutor: Extended Day Program

The Tutor will work with elementary and middle school scholars (K–8) on homework completion, reading and math skills, and enrichment activities. This is a great opportunity for students studying Education, Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, Youth Development, or any related field.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

This position exists to support the academic growth, safety, and well-being of scholars in the Extended Day Program, while reinforcing the values and mission of St. Louis Catholic Academy. 

• Provide one-on-one and small-group homework help and academic tutoring in reading, math, and writing. This is the core academic function of the role, directly supporting student achievement and reinforcing what scholars learn during the school day.
• Create a positive, calm, and respectful learning environment. A stable, welcoming atmosphere allows scholars to focus, feel secure, and engage fully in both academic and enrichment activities.
• Assist with daily aftercare routines: sign-in, snack, organized play, and dismissal. Smooth routines keep the program running safely and efficiently, and give scholars the structure and consistency they need after a full school day.
• Lead or assist with enrichment activities, coloring sheets, games, and STEM/reading centers. These activities extend learning beyond academics, giving scholars creative outlets and hands-on opportunities to explore new skills.
• Help with book leveling and getting materials ready for academic time blocks. Proper preparation ensures tutoring and academic time run efficiently, allowing more direct time with scholars rather than logistics.
• Model positive behavior and good character. As a visible role model, staff help form scholars' character and reinforce the faith-based mission at the heart of SLCA.
• Communicate respectfully with students, staff, and parents, and let the Director know about any concerns or progress worth celebrating. Clear, respectful communication keeps the whole team aligned and ensures scholars' needs are addressed promptly.
• Ensure the safety and supervision of all scholars at all times. Safety is the foundational responsibility of the role; nothing else can happen without it.
• Other duties as assigned by the Director. Flexibility allows the position to adapt to the evolving needs of the program and scholars it serves.

Required Qualifications/Skills: 

• Must have accepted a Federal Work-Study award for the current academic year.
• Must pass a background check and complete Protecting God’s Children training before starting
•  Must have reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications/Skills: 

• Pursuing a degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, Child Development, or a related field.
• Experience working with children (tutoring, camp, babysitting, coaching, youth ministry) is a plus.
• Patient, reliable, energetic, and able to be a positive role model.
