Beat Reporter
The Tulane School of Liberal Arts is seeking a curious, observant, and reliable student for one of three beat reporter positions. This role will help surface and tell Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences stories happening across the largest undergraduate school at Tulane. This role supports the Marketing & Communications team by identifying timely story ideas, covering events, and producing clear, engaging written content that highlights students, faculty, programs, and research. This is an ideal role for a student interested in journalism, communications, public relations, or storytelling — and a strong resume builder.
Responsibilities
- Identify and pitch story ideas from across SLA departments, programs, and events
- Attend lectures, panels, performances, and student activities to report key takeaways
- Conduct short interviews with faculty, students, alumni, and guests
- Draft short articles, blog posts, event recaps, and social copy
- Assist with press materials, talking points, and internal communications as needed
- Collaborate with designers and videographers to support cross-platform storytelling
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Interest in journalism, communications, public relations, or media studies
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Curiosity and comfort engaging with people across disciplines
- Familiarity with social media and digital publishing is a plus
