What You'll Do

The Y-12 National Security Complex is currently recruiting for summer 2027 internship opportunities in Field Engineering.

 

Provides support to Construction direct-hire craft by performing general Field Engineering responsibilities supporting construction projects. Completes assigned tasks with guidance from senior field engineers and receives technical direction to assist the field engineering department. Reviews and interprets drawings and specifications to determine if information is adequate for successful completion of construction. Reviews construction work for compliance with drawings and specifications. Learns the process to perform constructability reviews during design preparation and execution. Maintains direct relationship with the Construction Managers/Construction Superintendents and the responsible Project Managers (PM) to execute the scope of work. Provides technical assistance in all phases of construction formation, project execution, testing/inspection, and project closeout. Participates in obtaining any required permits/clearances, lockouts, Escort Agreements, and work authorizations prior to commencing work on site. Performs verification of work in progress to ensure requirements of safety, security, quality (technical drawings and specifications), environmental control, workmanship, and schedule are met. Assists in the preparation of procedures, administrative and technical documents.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • To be considered for the Field Engineering Intern position, you must be working toward or have completed a degree in Construction Management or Engineering.
  • Candidates pursuing an engineering degree must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited program.
  • Students who have graduated are eligible up to two years post-graduation.  In addition, you must have completed (at a minimum) your sophomore year in college, have an overall GPA (grade point average) of 3.0 or above if majoring in engineering, or 2.8 or above for all other eligible majors.
  • Be a United States Citizen.
