As we continue to grow our respiratory clinical trial portfolio, we are looking for an experienced pulmonary testing professional to join our Bronx research team.
Position Summary
Equity Medical is seeking an experienced Pulmonary Function Technologist (PFT Tech) or Respiratory Therapist with hands-on experience performing spirometry and pulmonary function testing.
This role will perform protocol-required pulmonary assessments and serve as a key resource for pulmonary testing quality at our Bronx clinical research site.
Clinical research experience is not required. If you have strong pulmonary function testing experience, we can teach you the clinical research side.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform protocol-required spirometry, including pre- and post-bronchodilator testing, in accordance with ATS/ERS standards.
- Perform additional pulmonary assessments as required by study protocols, including FeNO, DLCO, oscillometry, 6-minute walk testing, peak flow, and related testing.
- Ensure pulmonary testing meets study, sponsor, and quality requirements.
- Train and support research coordinators performing protocol-required spirometry.
- Complete protocol-specific operator certifications through central spirometry vendors, including Clario and similar platforms.
- Maintain PFT equipment, calibration records, biologic controls, maintenance logs, and other quality-control documentation.
- Review central over-read and quality reports and identify testing issues requiring remediation.
- Support resolution of study-related pulmonary testing and data-quality queries.
- Maintain accurate source documentation for pulmonary assessments.
- Support monitoring visits, audits, and inspections related to pulmonary function testing.
- Provide pulmonary function testing support on mobile research units and at other company research sites as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- Minimum of 2 years of hands-on pulmonary function testing and/or respiratory care experience that includes spirometry.
- Demonstrated experience performing high-quality spirometry.
- Knowledge of ATS/ERS spirometry acceptability and repeatability standards.
- Strong patient coaching and communication skills.
- Ability to recognize and troubleshoot technically unacceptable testing.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a clinical team.
Preferred
- CPFT, RPFT, CRT, RRT, or other relevant pulmonary/respiratory credential.
- Experience performing DLCO, FeNO, oscillometry, or other pulmonary assessments.
- NIOSH-approved spirometry training.
- Experience training or assessing staff in spirometry techniques.
- Experience with Clario or other central spirometry platforms.
- Clinical research or clinical trial experience.
- Familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Bilingual English/Spanish.
Don't have clinical research experience? That's okay. We're primarily looking for strong pulmonary testing skills and can provide training on clinical research processes and requirements.
Work Environment
This is a full-time, onsite position at Equity Medical's Bronx clinical research site with direct interaction with research participants.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, daytime hours. No nights, weekends, or on-call requirements.
Occasional travel to other Equity Medical research locations or mobile research units may be required.
Compensation
$65,000–$85,000 annually, commensurate with experience, education, credentials, and qualifications. Compensation within the stated range is negotiable.
