Technical Services Support Intern
Overview:
The internship will support Technical Standards, which has multiple projects related to Technical Services work, including Technical Committee support, Damage Prevention testing, and review of rules and standards.
Projects:
- Support Impact testing
- Gain experience related to freight loads.
- AQTF Advancement
- Review of Technical Standards to identify and prioritize standards and specifications that require updating per AQTF.
- QA Training Materials
- Review training materials to consider relevancy to current learning methods.
- Framework for MxV Rail QA program
Preferred Level of Education:
At least 1 year of undergraduate coursework. Preferably pursuing an Engineering or Transportation-related degree. General Sciences or Business degree would also be considered. Coursework would include structural, materials, or railway engineering and/or soil mechanics. Experience using Minitab, Statistica, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Python, SharePoint, and/or MATLAB.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Support the Technical Services Department, Technical Standards Group, and Damage Prevention Group with day-to-day operations and special projects.
- Analyze, organize, and maintain technical and operational data to support department initiatives.
- Provide administrative and technical support to committee managers and committee members.
- Coordinate, organize, and track critical information, documents, and project deliverables.
- Assist with commercial testing activities for the Damage Prevention Group, including both laboratory and field (on track) testing.
- Collect, compile, and interpret test results and performance data.
- Prepare summaries, reports, and presentations documenting testing outcomes and project findings.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support technical standards, damage prevention, and operational improvement efforts.
- Ensure that all duties and responsibilities are performed in a safe manner.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:

- Pursuing coursework in Structural Engineering, Materials Engineering, Railway Engineering, Soil Mechanics, or a related field.
- Apply academic knowledge to support technical research, testing, and engineering projects.
- Utilize engineering and data analysis software such as Minitab, Statistica, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Python, SharePoint, and/or MATLAB to support project objectives.
- Assist with data analysis, modeling, design, documentation, and reporting activities as assigned.
- Collaborate effectively with technical staff and project teams to achieve department goals.
- Maintain professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality standards.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with artificial intelligence (AI) tools and agent development.
- Experience with developing training material.
- Studies in quality assurance/statistical quality analysis.

Hourly Rate: $20
