Graduate Research Assistant

Graduate Research Assistants (GAs) are selected for excellence in scholarship and potential as researchers. Graduate Research Assistants provide 10 hours of service per week, over the course of a semester and under the supervision of faculty members. Research activities should relate directly to the student’s degree requirements and should be reasonably expected to contribute to the student’s academic program. You should not consider that all Research is done in a lab.

Graduate assistants are expected to assist an assigned MPH faculty mentor with his or her research program. This is likely to include conducting literature reviews, collecting and analyzing data, and preparing materials for disseminating research results, such as manuscripts or conference presentations. As part of their duties, MPH GAs are required to be available to meet with their assigned faculty member and/or the faculty mentor's research team, as directed and in accordance with the faculty mentor's schedule. Assigned work should be completed in a timely manner, as agreed upon with the faculty mentor. Please note, on-campus and/or off-campus work may be required. All GAs will be required to attend an MPH graduate assistant orientation.

Academic qualifications: Must be an MPH graduate student in good standing.

Qualifications:

Graduate Assistants must be fully admitted and enrolled for at least 8 credits for the academic year in a graduate program. Graduate course work and/or research must contribute directly to the satisfaction of Oakland's degree requirements. Graduate assistants must have and maintain good academic standing (3.0 grade point average).

Tuition:

Tuition (four credits per semester or a total of 8 credits) will be compensated. Any additional credits and class fees, including books, will be the responsibility of the student.  

Compensation:

Student will receive a pay check (via direct deposit if desired) on the last business day of each month for the duration of the assistantship.
