Financial Planning Intern

Financial Planning Intern

Position Summary

The Financial Planning Intern supports Advent Partners' advisors in delivering a comprehensive, client-first planning experience. Working directly alongside licensed professionals, the intern contributes to real client research, financial modeling, and communications, while completing a mentored, semester-long capstone project.

Who We Are

Advent Partners is an independent financial planning and wealth management firm dedicated to helping individuals and families build financial confidence and clarity. We take a comprehensive, client-first approach building long-term relationships rooted in trust, education, and personalized planning.

We are a small, close-knit team, which means our intern won't be making coffee or shuffling papers. You'll work directly alongside our advisors, contribute to real client work, and leave with skills and experiences that meaningfully advance your career.

Everything we do at Advent Partners is rooted in five values that aren't just words on a wall. They shape how we work, how we treat clients, and how we treat each other.

Generosity We give freely of our time, knowledge, and care, both with our clients and within our community. We believe financial planning done well is an act of service.

Relationship We're in the people business first. Every client is a long-term relationship, not a transaction, and we bring that same spirit to how we work as a team.

Excellence We hold ourselves to a high standard. Not perfectionism, but a genuine commitment to doing our best work and always looking for ways to improve.

Authenticity We show up as ourselves. We believe honest, transparent conversations build more trust than polished ones, and we expect the same from the people we work with.

Fun We take our work seriously and ourselves lightly. A career in financial planning should be rewarding and enjoyable, and we work hard to make sure our office reflects that.

If these values resonate with you, you'll fit right in.

The Opportunity

This is a structured, mentored internship, not a task-based role. From day one, you'll be embedded in the work of a real financial planning practice. You'll attend client meeting prep sessions, conduct research, build financial models, support client communications, and present your own findings.

By the end of the semester, you will have:

  • Hands-on experience with the financial planning process from discovery to recommendation
  • Exposure to real client scenarios, investment strategies, and goal-based planning
  • Proficiency with professional tools including financial planning software, CRM platforms, and Excel
  • A completed capstone project you can speak to in future job interviews
  • A professional mentor relationship with a licensed financial advisor
  • A strong letter of recommendation and professional reference upon successful completion

What You'll Do

We take mentorship seriously. Here's what you can expect from us:
