What you can expect
Jefferies Summer Analyst and Associate Interns have the unique opportunity to gain insight into a global, client-focused investment bank and experience an entrepreneurial environment where employees have the opportunity to make an immediate impact. You’ll be exposed to Jefferies’ full range of products and leading industry expertise.
Following an enriching orientation program, Interns will begin working on their day-to-day responsibilities, with support from colleagues serving as both instructors and mentors throughout the internship program. To help maximize your experience with us, Interns will receive formal performance reviews.
In addition to working on projects that have real impact within the Risk department, Interns are challenged to think creatively, offer their input, and add value to the team from day one. As with everyone at Jefferies, Interns are expected to pursue their projects with excellence, a collaborative spirit, and with the highest levels of integrity.
What we look for in a candidate
We look for candidates who are eager to make an impact to our clients by doing real, hands-on work. Successful Jefferies Interns are able to multitask and manage a variety of projects simultaneously. Candidates must demonstrate professionalism and relationship management skills together with strong technical, written and verbal communication skills. The work is fast paced, challenging and intellectually stimulating. The ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines, be adaptable and work both independently and as part of a team are essential traits of a successful candidate. Candidates should have a strong academic background and be pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s, PhD degree or equivalent program.
Desired Background and Skills:
- Candidates pursuing a Bachelor's, Master’s or PhD degree in Finance, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Financial Engineering, Engineering, Data Science or related field.
- Expected graduation between December 2027 – June 2028
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, Databases, and system implementation.
- Knowledge of financial markets
- Excellent analytical and quantitative skills, with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Ability to multitask, manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and perform under pressure.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence.
- Team player who excels at working both independently and as part of a team.
WORK WITH US – Opportunities with Risk Management
Jefferies Risk Management Department is responsible for independent risk oversight and analysis for the Firm by identifying, assessing, monitoring, and managing risk. The main responsibilities include:
- Establishing and implementing the risk management framework, policies and procedures, and controls.
- Establishing and implementing the firmwide risk appetite framework and statements in line with the Firm’s strategic business and financial plans.
- Identifying and assessing financial and non-financial risks including existing risks from business activities, emerging risks from changes in external conditions, and risks from new business strategies, initiatives and products introduced through the New Business Process.
- Measuring current and potential risks using quantitative and qualitative methodologies, and monitoring risks through key risk metrics.
- Establishing limit frameworks, monitoring utilizations of the limits against key risk metrics, and ensuring compliance to the limits.
- Reporting risk exposures, limit utilizations of key risk metrics, and escalating risk concerns and limit breaches.
- Performing independent reviews and challenges of risk-taking and hedging activities including deep dives of risk exposures and vulnerability review.
- Keeping abreast of regulatory developments and requirements.
Interns will be involved in quantitative analytics groups. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
Quantitative Analytics:
- Responsible for risk measurement methodologies and implementation, model validation, and the selection, development and implementation of risk systems and processes.
- Supporting both market and credit risk to ensure that the firm’s methodology for assessing firm and client risk is consistent and works with all areas of the firm to ensure that the methodology used by individual businesses is consistent with the Risk group.
- Independently reviewing and validating all models used for valuation of the firm’s inventory and ensures any model limitations are well understood and appropriately accounted for.

The base salary for the Summer Analyst role is $100,000 and Summer Associate role is $125,000 (pro-rated for the 10-week internship program).
