🀟 Make ASL Engaging and Accessible

We’re looking for an enthusiastic American Sign Language (ASL 1) Instructor to introduce students to the fundamentals of ASL through interactive, engaging, and age-appropriate learning experiences.

You'll help students build a foundation in basic signs, vocabulary, fingerspelling, everyday expressions, and introductory conversational skills while creating a supportive environment where they feel comfortable practicing and making mistakes.

The goal isn't simply to teach signs. It's to help students build confidence, communication skills, and an appreciation for inclusive communication and Deaf culture.

You don't need to be a professional ASL instructor or traditional classroom teacher. If you have a solid foundation in ASL, are comfortable teaching beginner-level concepts, and enjoy working with students, you may be a great fit.

Curriculum guidance and instructional materials are provided, giving you the support you need while allowing room for your own personality and teaching style.

🎯 What You'll Do

  • Lead engaging, beginner-friendly ASL sessions for middle and high school students
  • Teach foundational signs, vocabulary, fingerspelling, and everyday expressions
  • Introduce basic conversational skills and practical ASL phrases
  • Help students practice through games, activities, conversations, and real-world scenarios
  • Demonstrate signs clearly and provide supportive feedback
  • Encourage students to practice and participate without fear of making mistakes
  • Introduce age-appropriate concepts related to Deaf culture, accessibility, and inclusive communication
  • Adapt instruction to different learning styles, abilities, and experience levels
  • Create a welcoming, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
  • Encourage participation, curiosity, and confidence
  • Monitor student progress and celebrate accomplishments
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and positive classroom environment
  • Communicate professionally with program coordinators and school staff
  • Arrive prepared, dependable, and ready to engage students

🌟 What We're Looking For

You don't need to be fully fluent in ASL to apply. We're looking for someone with a strong enough foundation to confidently teach beginner-level ASL concepts and create an engaging learning experience.

You may be a great fit if you have:

  • A solid foundation in American Sign Language
  • Confidence with basic signs, vocabulary, fingerspelling, and everyday phrases
  • The ability to demonstrate and explain beginner-level ASL clearly
  • A genuine interest in ASL, communication, accessibility, or Deaf culture
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and an encouraging personality
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Comfort leading and engaging groups of students
  • The ability to follow provided curriculum and instructional guidance
  • Reliability, professionalism, and a positive attitude
  • Respect for Deaf culture and inclusive communication practices

Teaching experience is a plus, but not required. Experience in ASL instruction, education, tutoring, mentoring, interpreting, camps, or youth programs is helpful.

Fluent ASL users, ASL learners with a strong foundation, ASL and Deaf Studies students, interpreters, educators, college students, recent graduates, and passionate ASL users are encouraged to apply.
