Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsibilities include assisting students with MATLAB programming, Arduino-based exercises, and the development of systematic approaches to solving engineering problems.
- Helping students translate problem statements into algorithms and implement and test their solutions.
- Troubleshooting basic programming, hardware, and interfacing issues; and providing individual and small-group assistance during class activities.
- The Teaching Assistant may also assist with preparing laboratory materials and equipment, grading assignments and laboratory activities, and maintaining an effective and organized learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Candidates should have prior coursework or practical experience involving programming and engineering problem solving.
- Experience with MATLAB is required, and familiarity with Arduino or similar microcontroller platforms is preferred.
- Candidates should be comfortable assisting beginning engineering students with both programming and hands-on laboratory activities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (if any):
- Knowledge of basic programming concepts, including variables, data types, conditional statements, loops, functions, arrays, plotting, and basic data analysis, with proficiency in MATLAB.
- Familiarity with Arduino programming and basic interfacing of components such as LEDs, switches, sensors, and other simple devices is expected.
- Ability to apply structured problem-solving techniques, develop and interpret basic algorithms and flowcharts, identify and troubleshoot common programming and hardware errors, and clearly explain technical concepts to beginning engineering students is required.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills and the ability to encourage students to independently develop, test, and improve their solutions are also important.
Anticipated Schedule:
- TR 3:15-5:15 in person + preparation work (total 5 hours per week).
