Freight Brokerage Intern

INTERNSHIP OR PART TIME OPPORTUNITY : Freight Brokerage

ALS is looking for an intern or part time employee with the hopes that if it's a mutual fit we can setup a permanent part or full time arrangement that will be flexible around the individual's school schedule.

SUMMARY: 

The Freight Brokerage position is responsible for executing all functions related to the successful operation of customer service and coordinating freight via multiple modes of transportation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for all the day to day activities in determining routing, quoting and coordinating shipments.
• High intensity phone communication in handling carriers' bidding on available freight.
• Use personal judgment to satisfy customer expectations regarding pickup and delivery of product.
• Customer services; expected to solve problems, maintain accounts, provide new rates, and use personal judgment to satisfy customer expectations.
• Development of relationships with various providers.
• Consistently work with prospective and current customers to be their one stop shop.
• Performance evaluated regularly to ensure your growth as an asset to Air Land & Sea Express. As value is built within our organization, additional compensation will follow.
• Have the ability to perform at a high level to work without constant supervision.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:  Be teachable and eager to learn.

Working Skills and Attributes: Able to handle stressful situations. Able to take instructions and follow-through independently. Must have good personal organization skills and be competent at multi-tasking. There is no training manual for this position, must be able to learn on the job.

Interpersonal Skills: Must have good people skills, with the ability to grasp extensive knowledge while dealing with a wide variety of people. Must be able to present one’s self in a cooperative and professional manner with both customers and vendors.  

Communication Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret verbal and written requests and directions. Must have the ability to compose emails and other written documentation clearly and concisely.  Most importantly must feel comfortable speaking on the phone as the primary task for the position is fielding calls from carriers bidding on our loads and sorting out which calls are fits and which are not.

Computer Applications Skills: Must have working knowledge of Windows operating system and be proficient in Microsoft software applications (i.e., Word, Excel, Internet Browser.) Strong keyboard skills.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations as they relate to calculating pricing, revenue, and margin. 

Reasoning Ability: Ability to perform analytically on a case by case basis. Must assess situations, determine how situations came to be, and provide solutions. Have the ability to consistently think things through and develop processes that contribute to enhanced organizational efficiency.
