Culinary Arts Intern / Practicum Student
5 Senses Cuisine is a Dallas-based Nigerian culinary company specializing in Nigerian and Afro-fusion cuisine. Our operation includes restaurant service, catering, private dining and special events. We are seeking Culinary Arts students interested in gaining meaningful, hands-on experience in a professional commercial kitchen. This is a paid position designed to provide practical culinary training while allowing students to participate in real restaurant and catering production.
What You'll Learn & Do- Commercial kitchen preparation and mise en place
- Breakfast and lunch production and service
- Nigerian and Afro-fusion cooking techniques
- Sauces, soups, rice, grains, vegetables and protein preparation
- Knife skills and proper ingredient handling
- Portioning, recipe execution and consistency
- Plating and food presentation
- Catering and large-volume food production
- Catering packaging and order execution
- Food safety, sanitation and professional kitchen organization
- Inventory awareness and food-waste reduction
- Special-event and private-dining production
As skills develop, students may also have opportunities to participate in recipe testing, menu development and special culinary projects.
Who We're Looking ForWe welcome students currently enrolled in Culinary Arts, Food & Hospitality or a related program. Previous professional kitchen experience is helpful but not required. Candidates should be dependable, punctual, willing to learn, comfortable in a fast-paced kitchen and interested in developing professional culinary skills.
ScheduleApproximately 15–25 hours per week, depending on student availability and academic requirements. Daytime availability is preferred, with occasional catering or special-event opportunities outside regular restaurant hours.
Practicum / Academic Credit5 Senses Cuisine is open to working with the student's college or culinary program to structure the position around eligible internship, cooperative education or practicum requirements. Academic credit or practicum approval is subject to the student's school's requirements.
CompensationPaid position. Compensation based on experience and skill level. Strong-performing interns may be considered for continued employment opportunities with 5 Senses Cuisine.
