Video Editor

I’m a Chicago-based psychiatry provider developing educational YouTube content focused on medical genomics. I’m looking for a creative, reliable video editor to turn recorded educational content into polished, engaging YouTube videos. This would ideally become an ongoing freelance relationship as I continue developing more educational content.

What I’m looking for help with:

• Editing talking-head YouTube videos into polished, cohesive final videos
• Removing pauses, mistakes, stumbles, repetitions, and unnecessary sections while keeping the conversation natural
• Improving pacing and transitions so videos feel engaging without feeling overly edited
• Combining multiple takes or clips into a seamless final video
• Basic audio cleanup, color correction, framing, and other finishing touches
• Adding on-screen text, graphics, screenshots, research references, charts, and other visual elements when appropriate
• Incorporating relevant B-roll when it helps illustrate the topic
• Creating simple motion graphics or animations that make scientific concepts easier to understand

Examples of the types of animations I have in mind:

These would not need to be complex medical animations. I’m interested in simple, visually appealing ways to illustrate concepts and analogies. For example, an animation might show a “vacuum” representing the serotonin transporter removing serotonin molecules from the space between two neurons, or cars on a highway representing medications competing for the same metabolic pathway.

The goal is to take concepts that can feel complicated or abstract and make them intuitive and visually interesting for a general audience.

Ideal candidate:

• Experience with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar
• Some experience with motion graphics or animation, ideally using After Effects or a comparable program
• Strong visual judgment and attention to detail
• Able to make educational content engaging while maintaining a professional and credible feel
• Comfortable taking creative direction while also contributing ideas
• Reliable and communicative
• Interest in medicine, neuroscience, psychology, genomics, biology, or science communication is a major plus
• Current students and recent graduates are welcome to apply
