Job Position: Teacher of the Visually Impaired

Location: Detroit, Michigan


Pay Rate: Starting at $60.00 per hour

Birch Agency is seeking a qualified and dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to support students in educational settings throughout the Detroit area. This is a full-time opportunity for the 2026-2027 school year, offering the chance to make a meaningful impact while working collaboratively with students, families, and school teams.

Qualifications:


  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate or Michigan Temporary Teaching Authorization (T2EA)


  • Visually Impaired (SK) endorsement


  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired preferred


  • Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills


  • Knowledge of IEP development and special education procedures


  • Ability to support student access to curriculum and educational materials


Responsibilities :


  • Provide specialized instruction to students who are blind or visually impaired


  • Collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers to support student achievement


  • Assist in the development and implementation of individualized education programs (IEPs)


  • Conduct ongoing assessments and monitor student progress


  • Support access to educational materials and classroom instruction


  • Maintain required documentation and participate in educational team meetings


  • Promote the development of independent learning and self-advocacy skills
