Ghostwriter Collaborator
Blue Byron Books is the publishing house imprint of Ridea.
Blue Byron Books is redefining American culture and ideas by amplifying innovative, bold, and imaginative voices.
We’re a collective of young writers, designers, editors, thinkers, and creatives working together to publish bold, thoughtful, and original work. We appreciate people who think independently, question conventions, and are interested in building new ideas rather than simply repeating existing frameworks.
We’re currently looking for an exceptional writer and thinker to collaborate as a ghostwriter on a series of cerebral philosophical, cultural, and potentially political works.
This is not a traditional ghostwriting assignment. We’re looking for a long-term creative and intellectual partnership.
The First Project
The first project will involve working directly with Blue Byron Books founder and curator Rich Hebron to rework an existing 82,000-word philosophical fiction novel, The Gate of Clouds.
The manuscript has already gone through multiple rounds of editorial development and ultimately inspired a larger fictional universe. For this project, however, the objective is to separate the original novel from that larger universe and reshape it into a strong, cohesive standalone work of philosophical fiction.
Future projects would move increasingly into philosophical, cultural, and political nonfiction.
What the Collaboration Looks Like
This role would involve significant creative collaboration rather than simply receiving an outline and disappearing to write.
You would:
- Meet regularly with Rich to understand ideas, arguments, stories, voice, and intent
- Translate conversations and raw thinking into compelling written work
- Conduct and incorporate research
- Help organize complex ideas into clear intellectual frameworks
- Challenge ideas when appropriate and contribute your own perspective
- Capture an existing voice while bringing your own strength as a writer
- Experiment with AI and emerging creative tools when useful, without relying on them as a substitute for thinking or writing
- Help develop original intellectual property alongside Blue Byron Books
The goal is to build work together.
Who We’re Looking For
You might be a strong fit if you are:
- An outstanding writer with a strong sense of voice
- Interested in philosophy, culture, spirituality, politics, psychology, history, or ideas
- Intellectually curious and open-minded
- Comfortable questioning existing systems and frameworks
- Able to think rationally while remaining imaginative
- Interested in unconventional and forward-looking ideas
- Optimistic about what culture and society can become
- Comfortable respectfully disagreeing and challenging ideas
- Energized by collaboration rather than hierarchy
- Able to take ideas from concept to completion
- Interested in influencing the cultural conversation
You do not need decades of professional ghostwriting experience.
We care much more about writing ability, intellectual curiosity, alignment, thoughtfulness, and follow-through. The general BBB collaborator model similarly prioritizes mindset and the ability to build over conventional credentials.
Philosophical Fit
Alignment matters enormously for this collaboration.
We are particularly interested in someone willing to explore new frameworks for 21st-century problems rather than automatically applying 20th-century ideological frameworks to them.
The work should ultimately be cerebral but accessible, independent-minded but reasonable, and oriented toward constructive outcomes.
Themes and influences may span philosophy, spirituality, culture, politics, technology, generational change, and the future of American ideas.
There is a particular interest in creating work that speaks to and champions Millennial and Gen Z generations while contributing something meaningful to the broader culture.
How We Work
Blue Byron Books:
- Gives green lights, not micromanagement
- Values initiative, clarity, and accountability
- Embraces experimentation and new formats
- Works remotely through Zoom and Google Drive
- Builds around long-term creative partnerships rather than one-off gigs
- Cares deeply about making ideas accessible, modern, and alive
Compensation
The intention is to create intellectual property together and structure compensation around royalty/revenue sharing from the books produced through the collaboration. Specific authorship, credit, copyright, and royalty arrangements would be established before beginning a project.
