ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
Performs a variety of difficult, complex, and specialized professional and administrative work managing the work and activities of the Central Inspections Department; does related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Assistant County Manager.
 

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
• Thorough knowledge of Department of Insurance Construction Code requirements for building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing
• Ability to interpret and analyze technical and statistical information and to prepare and present technical oral and written reports
• Considerable knowledge of all types of construction materials and methods, and of stages of construction when possible violations and defects may be most easily observed and corrected
• Ability to communicate effectively and to tactfully handle customer relationships by clearly explaining complex materials in simple, concise terms
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, other departments, agencies, and the general public
 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
• High School Diploma or equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution and five (5) years of experience in residential/commercial building, electrical, plumbing, and/or mechanical construction work, or permitting OR
• Associate degree from an appropriately accredited institution in Civil Engineering, Engineering, Architecture, or related field OR
• Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution in Civil Engineering, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
AND
• Possession of four (4) standard level III certifications in electrical, fire, building, plumbing, and/or mechanical
• Two (2) years of supervisory experience
 

LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
• Must possess and maintain a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, sitting, standing, walking, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken work levels and to receive detailed information through oral
communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surrounding and activities; the work is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions.
