WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
As a Microbiologist (Spanish), you will use your knowledge and experience to optimize business results and customer experience by:
- Performing Microbiological science work or support work in various scientific and public health areas associated with dengue and other mosquito borne viruses, as well as other causes of acute febrile illnesses.
- Acquiring and organizes materials and information to carry out study procedures for assigned projects.
- Ensuring that assigned phases or segments of the work are performed.
- Preparing and delivering written and oral reports to a variety of individuals and groups in both informal and formal settings
Qualifications
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Basic Qualifications: You must possess one of the following:
A. Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology and other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, and 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, and college algebra, or their equivalent.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Minimum Qualifications: You must have one year specialized experience to perform successfully the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service performing at least ALL of the following:
- Performing molecular and serological diagnostic testing to detect, identify, and characterize pathogenic mosquito-borne viruses, acute febrile illnesses, and other infectious diseases
- Participating in proficiency testing and quality assurance activities, and ensuring SOPs, records, corrective actions, and test reporting to comply with CLIA and CDC laboratory quality requirements.
- Planning and conducting scientific studies, adapting laboratory methods and protocols, operating and calibrating sophisticated laboratory instrumentation.
- Analyzing and interpreting experimental data, preparing technical reports and publications, and presenting scientific findings to diverse audiences.
OR
Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree.
OR
Have a combination of experience and education that meets 100% of the qualification.
Selective Placement Factor (SPF): This position requires a SPF be met in order to meet minimum requirements for the position. Applicants who do not meet the SPF are ineligible for further consideration. Written, spoken, and reading fluency in Spanish is required.
