Are you studying social work, psychology, counseling, human services, healthcare administration, or a related field and interested in gaining hands-on experience in client care while learning how a mental health private practice operates?
Healing Springs Wellness Center is seeking a Client Care & Mental Health Practice Intern who is compassionate, organized, professional, and eager to gain experience beyond the classroom.
This is a client care and practice operations internship with clinical exposure. The intern will gain experience supporting prospective and current clients, assisting with the intake and referral process, collaborating with clinicians, and learning the systems and workflows that support a growing mental health practice.
This internship offers exposure to both the client experience and behind-the-scenes private practice operations, while maintaining clear boundaries between administrative/client care responsibilities and clinical services.
We are seeking a commitment of at least one academic year, with the potential to continue based on mutual interest, performance, and practice needs.
What You'll Learn
As a Client Care & Mental Health Practice Intern, you will gain experience with:
- Supporting prospective clients through initial inquiries, screening, and intake
- Learning how to gather presenting concerns using established screening questions and protocols
- Understanding how clients are matched with clinicians based on needs, specialty, insurance, availability, and overall fit
- Coordinating referrals and identifying appropriate community resources
- Learning intake procedures, Electronic Health Records (EHR), and mental health practice workflows
- Gaining exposure to insurance verification, billing coordination, scheduling, and practice operations
- Communicating professionally and compassionately with clients, clinicians, administrative staff, and community providers
- Participating in supervised team meetings and professional development opportunities
- Receiving mentorship and guidance from clinicians and practice leadership
- Strengthening communication, organization, problem-solving, and care coordination skills
- Understanding how clinical and administrative teams work together to support the overall client experience
Responsibilities
The intern will support client care and practice operations by:
- Responding to calls and prospective client inquiries
- Conducting structured preliminary screenings
- Collecting client, insurance, availability, and preference information
- Managing referrals, intake documentation, and EHR profiles
- Sending and tracking required paperwork
- Supporting client-clinician matching and communication
- Tracking referrals, inquiries, and intake progress
- Following up with prospective clients and providing community resources
- Assisting with scheduling, records requests, faxing, outreach, marketing, and special projects
- Maintaining confidentiality and following HIPAA, ethical standards, professional boundaries, and practice policies
Who We're Looking For
The Ideal Candidate:
- Available to work Tuesday and Thursday between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in psychology, social work, counseling, human services, healthcare administration, or a related field.
- Interested in mental health, client care, and private practice operations.
- Warm, compassionate, and comfortable supporting individuals experiencing emotional distress.
- Professional, organized, dependable, and attentive to follow-up and documentation.
- Able to take initiative while seeking guidance when needed.
- Comfortable learning electronic health records and healthcare systems.
- Committed to confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
- Receptive to feedback, supervision, mentorship, and continued learning.
