Machine Operator/Setup

 

PRIMARY JOB OBJECTIVE: Perform all functions necessary for the successful operation of assigned machines, including set-ups, to assure efficiency and productivity in producing a high-quality product.

 

COMPETENCIES

1. Applied Mathematics-Ability to use mathematical reasoning and problem-solving techniques to solve problems.

2. Technical Reading-Ability to read and use written text when text is unclear or not targeted to appropriate audience.

3. Problem Solving-Ability to solve problems with machines and equipment including mechanics. 

4. Workplace Observation-Ability to observe a process noticing details, remembering instructions, procedures, processes, and demonstrations to generalize the process which may be similar or very different from what was observed.

5. Locating Information-Ability to compare, summarize, and analyze information found in charts, graphs, tables, forms, flowcharts, diagrams, floor plans, maps, and instrument gauges.

6. Mechanical Aptitude-Ability to apply mechanical principles and concepts.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Operates a variety of assigned machines in the Department.
  • Must be able to efficiently make set-ups and tooling adjustments as required on assigned machines.
  • Must be able to diagnose and document problems for evaluation by set-up and engineering personnel.
  • Must be able to use mics; hand-held and/or automatic gauging equipment. 
  • Must be able to read and understand manufacturing routings.  Understand and be able to record all data necessary to maintain the Data Collection requirements. 
  • Responsible for the quality of the product produced.  Insures high-quality through visual inspection, tape measurement, micrometer measurements, and monitoring gauges during processing of material. 
  • Cleans and maintains tooling and machine in good condition.  Responsible for general housekeeping of work area. 
  • Assists in maintaining safe working conditions and conducting oneself in such a manner as to not endanger oneself or fellow employees. 
  • Responsible for keeping the Supervisor informed of work-related problems and the progress of work assignments. 
  • Must follow written departmental procedures and is responsible for all company tools assigned to their area. 
  • Trains and direct less skilled personnel in the department.

 

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

This is not an all-inclusive job description and there will be times that the position holder will be asked to perform miscellaneous other duties as assigned, but not essential to this specific job. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have a High School diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.  Skilled in the operations of power equipment.  Must be able to read, write, and compute math calculations.  Must be able to use gauge equipment (micrometers, ruler, etc.).  This must be able to read and understand blueprints. Able to lift 80 lbs., push/pull 200 lbs., bending, standing, walking, climbing, twisting, and must have good vision; can be corrected with glasses.  Must have at least two (2) years of experience in the Formed Products Department as a Machine Operator or equivalent experience.  Must have good work record.
