Legal Intern

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. Join our Legal team as a 2027 summer intern, where you’ll gain hands-on experience in corporate law operations while providing critical support to attorneys and paralegals. This internship is ideal for students pursuing degrees in Pre-Law, Political Science, Business, or related fields who are interested in learning how an in-house legal department operates within a global manufacturing company.

 

  • Maintain and organize the Legal department’s central filing system, ensuring accurate tracking and storage of executed agreements and key legal documents.
  • Assist with scanning, copying, and responding to internal document requests to support timely business operations.
  • Contribute to special projects, including legal research, contract review support, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and cross-functional business partners to resolve urgent requests and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Gain exposure to contract management systems, legal processes, and corporate governance.

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

 

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

 

Ideal Experience & Skills

  • Ability to handle filing, scheduling, or document preparation, reliably
  • Research and writing experience
  • Exposure to legal or compliance settings, preferred

 

Education & Certifications

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Pre-Law, Political Science, Business, or a related field.
  • Or currently enrolled in a Juris Doctor (JD) program
  • Cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • High school diploma or GED required.

 

Travel & Working Environment

  • Hybrid schedule
  • The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours. 
  • Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Keyboarding/typing.
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally.

 

Our intern and co-op positions are paid, and we offer housing stipends for students who are not local to the Kansas City area.
