Assistant Project Manager I

The Assistant Project Manager I supports the planning, coordination, and execution of utility construction projects. This entry-level role is designed for individuals beginning their project management career and provides hands-on experience in project controls, scheduling, budgeting, and field coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Project Support & Coordination

  • Assist Project Managers in planning and executing utility construction projects from initiation to closeout 
  • Coordinate with field crews, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure project timelines are met 
  • Help track project milestones, deliverables, and deadlines 
  • Support daily project operations and administrative tasks 

Scheduling & Project Controls

  • Maintain and update project schedules using company systems 
  • Assist with tracking labor hours, production quantities, and equipment usage 
  • Support cost tracking, forecasting, and budget updates 
  • Identify potential schedule delays and escalate issues as needed 

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate project documentation including contracts, permits, and change orders 
  • Assist with preparing submittals, RFIs (Requests for Information), and project reports 
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, client requirements, and regulatory standards 
  • Support quality control and safety documentation efforts 

Financial & Contract Support

  • Assist in reviewing invoices and timesheets
  • Support job cost tracking and reporting 
  • Help manage subcontractor documentation and compliance 
  • Assist with change order tracking and documentation 

Communication & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Serve as a point of contact between field operations and office staff 
  • Participate in project meetings and provide status updates 
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders 

 

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field
    OR equivalent combination of education and field experience 

Experience

  • 0–2 years of experience in construction, utilities, or project coordination preferred 
  • Internship or field experience in utility construction is a plus
