Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II

Position Summary

The City of Cape May is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II (SLEO II). The SLEO II will assist the Cape May Police Department in maintaining public safety, protecting residents and visitors, enforcing applicable laws and municipal ordinances, and providing professional police services throughout the City.

This position is well suited for individuals interested in a career in law enforcement, retired or former law enforcement officers who meet applicable requirements, and qualified candidates seeking part-time police experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas of the City of Cape May and maintain a visible law-enforcement presence.
• Respond to calls for service and assist regular police officers as directed.
• Enforce applicable New Jersey laws and Cape May municipal ordinances within the authority granted to a Special Law Enforcement Officer Class II.
• Conduct traffic enforcement and assist with traffic control during special events, emergencies, and periods of heavy congestion.
• Assist with crowd control, public events, and seasonal activities.
• Observe and report suspicious activity and investigate circumstances as directed.
• Assist with investigations, arrests, and other police functions within the officer's legal authority and department policies.
• Prepare clear and accurate reports, summonses, and other required documentation.
• Provide professional assistance and information to residents, visitors, businesses, and members of the public.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies and request additional police, fire, or emergency medical resources when necessary.
• Maintain professional conduct, appearance, equipment, and communication standards.
• Work cooperatively with Cape May Police Department personnel and other emergency-service agencies.
• Perform other law-enforcement duties as assigned by department supervisors.
