The TDPS Scene Shop in Montgomery Hall is looking for a Scene Shop Assistant to support the construction, painting, and maintenance of scenery for our season of productions. This is a hands-on position for students who want to build practical skills in technical theatre while contributing directly to shows that go up on our Bruce Davis Theater Stage.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Technical Director with building scenery and set pieces
- Operate hand and power tools safely and follow shop safety protocols
- Assist with scenic painting and finishing work
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
- Load in and load out scenery for productions as needed
- Support general shop maintenance and tool/materials organization
- Other duties as assigned by the TD
Qualifications
- Some prior experience in a scene shop, tech theatre, or general woodworking/construction preferred or taken Stagecraft course
- Willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and safety procedures
- Ability to follow directions and work as part of a team
- Comfortable with physical work (lifting, standing, working at heights as trained)
- Current SMCM student in good standing
