The Tennessee Department of Treasury impacts the lives of Tennesseans every day. Treasury is responsible for many of the financial operations of state government, including managing more than $125 billion in assets through its various investment programs. The Investment Division is comprised of over thirty investment professionals responsible for the investment funds, the largest of which is the Tennessee Consolidated Retirement System, which has $100 billion in defined benefit pension fund assets. Investments include equities, fixed income, real estate, private equity and strategic credit. Our equities team manages quantitative, fundamental, and sector rotation strategies and our fixed income team manages corporate bonds, treasuries, and interest rates. The real estate team makes both direct and commingled fund investments in properties throughout the United States, while the private equity and strategic credit teams make primary fund investments and co-investments on a global basis. Internship Overview:
The Investment Analyst Intern will work with all asset class teams. Primary responsibilities include:
- Participation in both internal and external meetings across all asset classes. These meetings will provide exposure to the CIO and Directors of each asset class, as well as external managers and research providers.
- Opportunity to select from one of the five asset classes to evaluate new investment opportunities and monitor existing holdings within that area.
- Researching an emerging issue relevant to the investments team and presenting finding during the last week of the internship.
- Opportunity for additional projects as needed. Past projects have included evaluating commercial paper holdings of blue-chip public companies and presenting recommendations to the Director of Fixed Income, Deputy CIO, and CIO.
Treasury is looking for MBA, MA, MS, or PhD students who have demonstrated an interest in finance and investing both through work experience and school-related coursework and activities. Applicants must have completed first-year requirements by the summer of 2027.
