We are seeking a passionate and experienced Pediatric Occupational Therapist (OTR) who enjoys working independently while collaborating with a supportive multidisciplinary team. This position may also include serving as a Supervising Occupational Therapist for Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs).

Position Summary

The Pediatric Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing skilled occupational therapy services to pediatric clients in home and community-based settings. Responsibilities include conducting comprehensive evaluations, establishing plans of care, developing measurable goals, providing direct treatment, monitoring client progress, completing required documentation, and collaborating with families and interdisciplinary providers.

Depending on organizational and caseload needs, the Occupational Therapist may also serve as the supervising OTR for one or more Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs). In this capacity, the OTR provides clinical oversight, direction, consultation, and supervision within the OTR/OTA scope of practice and in accordance with applicable Arizona occupational therapy laws, regulations, payer requirements, and COHK policies.

The OTR remains responsible for those clinical functions that must be performed by a licensed Occupational Therapist and for appropriately delegating services to OTAs within their permitted scope of practice.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Occupational Therapy Services

• Conduct comprehensive pediatric occupational therapy evaluations, assessments, and reassessments.
• Interpret evaluation findings and identify the child's functional strengths, limitations, and therapy needs.
• Develop individualized treatment plans, plans of care, and measurable functional goals based on evaluation findings.
• Provide skilled occupational therapy treatment in the child's home, community, daycare, school when authorized, and other approved settings.
• Address areas including sensory processing, fine motor development, visual-motor integration, self-care, feeding when appropriately trained, handwriting, executive functioning, motor planning, functional participation, and activities of daily living.
• Monitor client progress and modify treatment plans and goals when clinically appropriate.
• Determine the continued need for skilled occupational therapy services and make recommendations regarding continuation, modification, reassessment, or discharge.
• Complete evaluations, daily treatment notes, progress reports, reassessments, discharge summaries, and other required clinical documentation within established timeframes.
• Maintain documentation that meets Arizona DDD, AHCCCS, payer, regulatory, and COHK requirements.
• Educate parents, caregivers, and support staff regarding therapeutic strategies, home programs, safety, positioning, adaptive techniques, and other recommendations within the therapist's scope of practice.
• Communicate and collaborate with physicians, DDD Support Coordinators, case managers, schools, caregivers, and other healthcare professionals as appropriate.
• Participate in interdisciplinary case conferences, clinical consultations, and team meetings as needed.

OTA Clinical Supervision & OTR Responsibilities

When assigned as a supervising OTR, responsibilities may include:

• Provide clinical supervision, oversight, mentoring, and professional direction to assigned Occupational Therapy Assistants.
• Establish the occupational therapy plan of care and determine which interventions and treatment activities may appropriately be delegated to an OTA.
• Ensure assigned OTAs understand each client's treatment plan, goals, precautions, therapeutic interventions, and relevant clinical considerations before providing delegated services.
• Provide ongoing consultation and supervision based on the client's condition, complexity of care, OTA experience and competency, applicable regulations, and clinical needs.
• Remain appropriately available to OTAs for consultation regarding changes in client status, treatment concerns, safety concerns, caregiver concerns, and other clinical matters.
• Periodically review OTA treatment performance and implementation of the established plan of care.
• Review OTA clinical documentation for accuracy, completeness, consistency with the plan of care, and compliance with agency and payer requirements.
• Review, authenticate, and/or co-sign OTA documentation when required by applicable law, regulation, payer policy, or COHK procedure.
• Provide clinical feedback, coaching, and mentoring to OTAs to promote safe, effective, evidence-based pediatric occupational therapy services.
• Communicate changes to the treatment plan and provide updated clinical direction to assigned OTAs.
• Conduct or participate in supervisory visits and clinical case reviews when required or clinically appropriate.
• Identify performance, competency, documentation, or patient-safety concerns involving assigned OTAs and promptly communicate concerns to COHK administration.
• Assist with orientation and clinical onboarding of newly contracted or hired OTAs when requested.
• Verify that delegated occupational therapy services remain within the OTA's authorized scope of practice and demonstrated competency.
• Complete evaluations, reassessments, modifications to the occupational therapy plan of care, discharge determinations, and other OTR-level clinical responsibilities that may not appropriately be delegated to an OTA.
• Maintain required supervision records and documentation in accordance with applicable Arizona requirements and COHK policies.
• Promote effective communication and continuity of care between the supervising OTR, OTA, family/caregiver, and interdisciplinary treatment team.

Clinical supervision under this position relates to the delivery of occupational therapy services and does not, by itself, create responsibility for employment decisions, payroll, hiring, termination, or other administrative functions unless separately assigned by COHK.

Compliance & Quality Responsibilities

• Ensure services are provided in accordance with applicable Arizona DDD, AHCCCS, payer, state, and federal requirements.
• Maintain compliance with HIPAA, confidentiality requirements, infection-control standards, COHK policies, and professional ethical standards.
• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with clients, families, caregivers, and other providers.
• Report clinical, safety, compliance, or documentation concerns promptly.
• Participate in quality assurance and continuous quality improvement activities when requested.
• Maintain required productivity and documentation standards.
• Stay current with evidence-based pediatric occupational therapy practices and applicable professional requirements through continuing education.

Qualifications

Required

• Current Arizona Occupational Therapist license in good standing.
• Graduate of an accredited Occupational Therapy program.
• Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy, as applicable to the therapist's educational pathway and licensure.
• Current CPR/First Aid Certification or ability to obtain certification before providing services.
• Valid driver's license.
• Reliable transportation and current automobile insurance when traveling to client service locations.
• Ability to obtain and maintain all required Arizona DDD provider clearances, fingerprint clearance, background checks, and other required credentials.
• Ability and willingness to provide clinical supervision to OTAs when assigned.
• Strong clinical documentation, communication, organization, and time-management skills.
• Ability to exercise independent professional judgment and recognize when services or clinical decisions require OTR involvement.

Preferred

• Minimum one year of pediatric occupational therapy experience.
• Previous experience supervising or clinically directing Occupational Therapy Assistants.
• Experience with Arizona DDD, AHCCCS, HCBS, early intervention, schools, or pediatric home/community-based therapy.
• Knowledge of sensory integration, developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, neurological conditions, and pediatric developmental disorders.
• Experience working with interdisciplinary pediatric therapy teams.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
