Staff Environmental Engineer / Scientist (Air Quality & Environmental Compliance)

 

Davenport Engineering, Inc. is seeking a full-time entry-level Environmental Engineer or Scientist to join its team in Torrance, California. This position represents an opportunity for a recent college graduate or early career professional to develop expertise in a variety of air quality and environmental compliance projects for client facilities located throughout the United States.

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION

As part of a team of professional engineers and scientists, you will support environmental compliance and air pollutant emission inventory projects for facilities in the petroleum, chemical, industrial gas, manufacturing, food processing, and aerospace industries. 

Key Duties and Focused Work Areas: 

  • Prepare criteria pollutant and air toxic emission inventories 
  • Prepare EPCRA SARA 313 Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reports (multi-media) 
  • Support greenhouse gas (GHG) planning, emission calculations, and reporting 
  • Analyze large environmental datasets using Excel and other database tools 
  • Prepare compliance monitoring reports and environmental documentation 
  • Perform health risk assessments and air quality modeling 
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local environmental regulations 
  • Assist project managers with project planning, budgeting, and client communications

QUALIFICATIONS 

Required

  • B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Chemistry, Mathematics, or a related discipline 
  • 0-3+ years of relevant experience 
  • Strong academic record 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities 
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel) 
  • Experience with, or strong aptitude for analyzing large datasets 
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new data analysis tools 

Preferred

  • Related internship, co-op, or research experience 
  • Regulatory knowledge of local, state, and federal air quality programs 
  • Experience working with environmental agencies or the petroleum industry 
  • Experience calculating emissions, reviewing permits, or studying climate change 

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS 

Expected salary $68,000 - $80,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
