Position Summary
The Digital Operations Support and Development Specialist Intern works with VGI Technology's Digital Operations and Marketing teams to develop, improve, test, and support software applications, digital tools, business automations, system integrations, dashboards, and reporting solutions.
This is a hands-on technology internship. Interns will work on practical business projects rather than observation-only assignments. Projects may involve internal business applications, customer-facing software, artificial intelligence, APIs, databases, reporting, workflow automation, websites, and integration between business systems.
The internship is designed to give students experience taking a business requirement from initial discussion through research, prototyping, development, testing, documentation, and implementation.
What the Intern Will Do
Interns may participate in assignments such as:
Application Development: Help design, build, test, and improve internal business applications and customer-facing software.
AI-Assisted Development: Use approved artificial intelligence tools and development resources to assist with research, prototyping, coding, troubleshooting, analysis, and application functionality.
Business Process Automation: Identify repetitive or manual processes and help develop workflows and automations that make those processes faster and more reliable.
Systems Integration: Work with APIs, databases, and other integration technologies to exchange information between business applications.
Data Analysis and Reporting: Use tools such as Microsoft Excel, Power BI, SQL, and Python to organize business data, analyze results, identify trends, and create reports and dashboards.
Business and Financial Analysis: Assist with projects that use operational and financial data to evaluate costs, revenue, efficiency, resource utilization, performance, and other business metrics.
Dashboard Development: Build or enhance management dashboards that convert operational and business data into useful information for decision-making.
Website and Marketing Technology: Support website applications, digital marketing tools, campaign reporting, customer communications, and related technology initiatives.
Requirements Analysis: Meet with business users to understand a problem or opportunity and translate those requirements into a technical solution, prototype, or development plan.
Application Testing: Test new and existing applications, reproduce reported problems, document defects, validate corrections, and help ensure software performs as expected.
Troubleshooting and Support: Investigate software, data, integration, and workflow problems and help develop practical solutions.
Technical Documentation: Create documentation for applications, workflows, integrations, testing procedures, configuration, and user instructions.
Project Support: Participate in active technology projects and help coordinate assigned work from initial requirements through completion.

Depending on current company priorities and the student's skills, an intern could be asked to:
Build a dashboard that combines operational and financial information for management.
Automate a manual Excel or reporting process.
Develop or enhance an internal web application used by VGI employees.
Create an API integration between two business systems.
Analyze business data using SQL, Excel, Power BI, or Python and present the findings.
Help develop an AI-enabled feature for an existing VGI application.
Test a new customer-facing application and document defects and recommended improvements.
Create a workflow that eliminates repetitive data entry.
Assist with reporting from CRM, ERP, marketing, project-management, or other business systems.
Develop technical and user documentation for a newly implemented application or process.

Although this is primarily a technology and digital-operations internship, students will gain exposure to the financial implications of technology decisions.
Projects may require interns to work with financial and operational data, analyze costs, evaluate process efficiency, measure the impact of automation, develop management reports, and understand how technology investments contribute to organizational performance.
This provides an opportunity for students to connect technical skills with fundamental business concepts such as revenue, expense, profitability, productivity, return on investment, resource allocation, budgeting, and data-driven decision-making.

Interns will work under the direction of VGI Technology leadership and designated project stakeholders.
Interns may participate in the development and testing of real business solutions; however, material production changes, external product releases, access to sensitive information, and other significant system changes require appropriate review and authorization.
Students will also be expected to follow VGI Technology standards for security, privacy, access control, data quality, software quality, and responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Internship Experience
VGI Technology intends this internship to provide students with meaningful, portfolio-worthy professional experience. Interns will have the opportunity to see how software development, artificial intelligence, data analytics, financial information, marketing technology, and business operations work together inside an operating technology company.
The objective is for students to leave the internship with more than exposure to technology—they should be able to demonstrate projects they contributed to, explain the business problems those projects addressed, describe the technologies and methods they used, and articulate the measurable or practical value their work created.
