Job Type: Part-Time or Full Time

Turn Your Compassion Into Hands-On Experience

Are you studying nursing, pre-med, biology, psychology, social work, public health, or another healthcare-related field?

FirstLight Home Care offers students the opportunity to gain meaningful, hands-on experience while making a real difference in someone’s life. You will work directly with seniors and other adults who need support to remain safe, comfortable, and independent at home.

No caregiving experience is required. If you have a compassionate personality, a heart for serving others, and a willingness to learn, we are ready to invest in you. We provide training, guidance, and ongoing support to help you become a confident caregiver.

The FirstLight Difference

At FirstLight, caregiving is more than completing a list of tasks. It is about helping people have their best day—every day.

You will be part of a local team that knows you, supports you, and wants to see you succeed. We understand the demands of college and do our best to build schedules around your availability while meeting our clients’ needs.

We offer:

  • Flexible part-time scheduling with morning, afternoon, evening, overnight, and weekend opportunities
  • Hands-on training for individuals without prior caregiving experience
  • Ongoing support from a responsive local office team
  • Experience working directly with clients in their homes
  • Opportunities to develop communication, observation, problem-solving, and personal-care skills
  • Meaningful work that complements healthcare and social-service coursework
  • The chance to build strong professional references and real-world experience

What You’ll Do

Depending on the client’s individual care plan, responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with bathing, toileting, grooming, dressing, and incontinence care
  • Supporting mobility, transfers, and daily routines
  • Providing companionship and emotional support
  • Preparing simple meals and encouraging hydration
  • Assisting with light housekeeping and laundry
  • Providing medication reminders
  • Running errands or providing transportation when needed
  • Observing and reporting changes or concerns to the FirstLight office team

Please Understand the Hands-On Nature of This Role

This is a direct-care position. Caregivers must be willing and able to respectfully assist clients with personal needs, including bathing, toileting, hygiene, and changing briefs.

We provide training, but applicants must be comfortable learning and performing these responsibilities. The right person does not need to know everything on day one—we are looking for someone dependable, compassionate, respectful, and ready to learn.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • No previous caregiving experience required
  • Compassionate, dependable, patient, and professional
  • Willing to provide hands-on personal care
  • Able to communicate clearly and follow an individualized care plan
  • Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance
  • Willing to complete a background check and meet California Home Care Aide registration requirements
  • Able to provide a qualifying TB clearance
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

A Great Opportunity for Students

This position can be especially valuable for students pursuing:

  • Nursing
  • Pre-med or other pre-health programs
  • Biology or health sciences
  • Psychology
  • Social work
  • Gerontology
  • Occupational or physical therapy
  • Public health
  • Human services

Classroom knowledge matters, but so does learning how to communicate with people, recognize changes, protect dignity, and provide compassionate support. FirstLight gives you the opportunity to begin developing those skills now.
