THE POINT — Event Operations Crew

Labor-Intensive Event Setup, On-Site Management, and Breakdown

Start Date: Immediately or as soon as the selected candidate is available
Hours: Approximately 8–30 hours per week, including weekdays and weekends. Scheduling can be flexible around classes.

About The Point

The Point is a full-service waterfront event venue located on scenic Mission Bay in San Diego. We host weddings, corporate events, company picnics, team-building experiences, and special celebrations. Learn more about us at www.GetToThePoint.io.

The Point is a female- and LGBTQ+-owned business committed to creating an inclusive environment for all people. We are a paperless company and promote sustainable event and meeting practices.

About the Position

This is primarily a hands-on, labor-intensive event operations and event management position. This is not primarily a desk-based event-planning, coordinating, or sales role.

Most shifts involve physically preparing the venue, setting up events, moving furniture and equipment, cleaning, assisting guests and vendors, managing events as they happen, and completing the full breakdown and reset afterward.

Team members will also gain valuable experience in event coordination and venue sales. As part of the position, you will learn how events move from the initial inquiry and planning stages through execution and final follow-up. However, coordination and sales are secondary learning opportunities—the core of this job is the physical work required to successfully execute events.

Primary Responsibilities

Setting up and breaking down events

Moving tables, chairs, furniture, lawn games, and event equipment

Completing pre-event cleaning and venue preparation

Bussing tables, removing trash, and restocking supplies

Assisting with catering and beverage service

Loading, carrying, organizing, and storing equipment

Remaining active and on your feet throughout the shift

Supporting vendors, clients, and guests during events

Assisting with team-building activities and water equipment

Setting up and managing audiovisual equipment

Monitoring event timelines and venue needs

Completing post-event cleanup and fully resetting the venue

Attention to Detail and Proactive Problem-Solving

Successful events depend on noticing the small details before the client or guests do. Team members are expected to actively monitor the venue, anticipate what may be needed next, and identify potential problems before they affect the event.

This may include noticing that supplies are running low, furniture needs to be adjusted, an area needs cleaning, a vendor is missing something, the event is falling behind schedule, or a possible safety or guest-service issue is developing.

The right candidate will not wait to be told about every task. They will scan the space, pay attention to what is happening, communicate concerns, and take appropriate action to resolve small issues before they become larger problems.

Event Management Responsibilities

In addition to physical setup and breakdown, team members will help manage events while they are taking place. Responsibilities may include:

Welcoming and assisting clients, vendors, and guests

Monitoring the event timeline and anticipating upcoming needs

Providing friendly and professional customer service

Keeping the venue clean, organized, safe, and properly stocked

Supporting catering and other vendors

Identifying and resolving problems quickly

Communicating important information to the event team

Helping ensure each event runs smoothly from setup through breakdown

Event Coordination and Sales Experience

As team members gain experience and demonstrate reliability, they will also have opportunities to learn and assist with:

Client and vendor communication

Venue tours and client walkthroughs

Event timelines and floor-plan creation

Vendor coordination

Contract updates and payment collection

Event inquiries and client follow-up

The venue sales process

Planning weddings, corporate events, and private celebrations

This position is ideal for someone who wants to enter the events industry and understands that learning successful event coordination begins with mastering the physical, hands-on work required to execute an event.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

The ability and willingness to lift, carry, and move furniture and event equipment

The stamina to remain physically active throughout a shift

Strong attention to detail and awareness of their surroundings

The ability to anticipate needs and identify problems before they arise

A proactive approach and willingness to act without always being asked

A hands-on, “can-do” attitude

A willingness to clean, bus tables, remove trash, and assist wherever needed

Reliability, punctuality, and strong organizational skills

Excellent customer-service and communication skills

Good judgment and the ability to make decisions under pressure

A positive, self-motivated, and team-oriented personality

An interest in weddings, corporate events, hospitality, or event production

Availability for weekday and weekend shifts with advance notice and flexibility around class schedules

A genuine interest in learning about event management, coordination, and sales

Events may include weddings, ceremonies and receptions, corporate off-site meetings, company picnics, holiday parties, seminars, wellness events, baby showers, birthday celebrations, and celebrations of life.
