Responsibilites

This entry-level engineering role is designed to develop future technical and leadership talent for Kingsport Plant Engineering and partner organizations at Eastman’s Kingsport site.  This role participates in a 3-year duration structured onboarding and development program that builds foundational technical competency, expands organizational awareness, and prepares engineers for long-term career placement across multiple engineering and operational disciplines.

 

The program bridges the gap between initial onboarding and full role readiness by combining formal training, hands-on experience, and cross-functional exposure. Upon completion of the program, the individual will have the opportunity to apply for other roles or be placed based on business need.

Potential Placements

Plant Engineering

  •  Create a strong relationship with customers to identify problems and develop cost effective solutions 
  • Provide day-to-day engineering support for Manufacturing, Maintenance, & Technology projects
  • Time split between fieldwork and desk work with ability to work successfully in a multidiscipline, collaborative, team-oriented and fast-paced environment
  • Support Eastman manufacturing sites domestically and internationally 
  • Significant infrastructure improvement work  
  • Provide design support for capital projects of all sizes, including large growth projects by preparing construction drawings, specifications, and cost estimates  
  • Capable of managing multiple projects from a conceptual idea to implementation of design and assuming responsibility for project execution to meet deadlines  
  • Develop, adopt, and maintain corporate and site-specific civil and structural engineering standards 
  •  

Structural Engineering

  • Apply a broad range of structural engineering skills to bridges, buildings, manufacturing equipment, structural analysis, transportation, general facilities maintenance   
  • Provide structural modeling and analysis services, troubleshooting, and failure investigation  
  • Embedded in a manufacturing area for proximity to partners and to develop area specific knowledge  
  • Gain greater familiarity of building codes and standards including IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI 318, and AWC-NDS  

 

 

            Civil Underground Engineering

  • Apply a broad range of civil engineering skills to systems including underground utilities, transportation including railroad, collection systems, general facilities maintenance 
  • Support operations by troubleshooting underground distribution utilities, improving reliability, and solving general engineering problems 
  • Focus on innovation and implementation of new repair methods for underground piping systems  

 

Supplemental Rotations

  • Placement determined by business need
  • May include working at other Eastman sites, targeted efforts to improve plant reliability, support maintenance turnarounds, or drive efforts that are mission-critical to company

 

 

Qualifications

Desired Skills, Attributes, Experience, and Education

  • Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or university
  • Master’s degree in civil or Structural Engineering preferred  
  • FE/EIT certification required and ability to obtain a PE license 
  • This position is for an entry-level civil/structural engineer.
