Job Description




Lead Engineer - Bettis Site Composite Test Facility Infrastructure



The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) electrical community maintains a unique suite of laboratories that: 
•    Qualify Reactor Plant Instrumentation and Control (RPI&C) software and hardware 
•    Enable rapid, technically rigorous support to the operating fleet 
•    Provide immersive crew familiarization with shipboard systems


 


The Bettis Shipboard Electrical Systems Infrastructure team is at the center of this mission maintaining, modernizing, and reimagining RPI&C test system infrastructure at the Bettis site, and developing innovative test solutions for both current platforms and future designs.
The Bettis Infrastructure Development (BID) unit is seeking an experienced Principal level Lead Engineer to drive the near term establishment of new RPI&C Composite Test Facilities at Bettis. These state of the art facilities are essential to mission critical New Design NR Program deliverables (e.g., BBGN) and will directly influence the performance and reliability of next generation shipboard systems.


 


In this role, you will: 
•    Lead the end to end effort to design, develop, construct, qualify, and release RPI&C Composite Test Facilities 
•    Coordinate multidisciplinary work across the BID unit and partner organizations on site and off site 
•    Serve as a key technical leader and integrator, ensuring alignment between engineering teams, project management, and customers


 


Your span of responsibility will include, but is not limited to: 
•    System and infrastructure design and analysis 
•    Project planning, scheduling, and cost control for complex, multi year efforts 
•    Technical leadership and oversight of engineering and construction activities 
•    Interfaces with management, customers, and support organizations to resolve issues and keep work moving 
•    Identifying and pursuing innovative test system concepts that improve capability, reliability, and efficiency

As the Lead Engineer for Composite Test Facility Infrastructure at Bettis, you will have a rare opportunity to blend system level thinking, practical engineering, and leadership to deliver capabilities that directly support the Fleet and future platforms.


 


 






Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill



Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 9 years of relevant experience; or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering or science field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience; or Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a related technical, engineering, science field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently a Principal Reactor Training Engineer, Refueling Engineer, or Field (RPCO) Engineer at the Company.




Preferred Skills




Experience with NR Program RPI&C work.
Experience with managing complex work assignments across a variety of stakeholder organizations.
Direct experience with and/or oversight of shipbuilding and/or maintenance of shipboard instrumentation and control systems.  


Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain relationships with a broad array of Program personnel (e.g., engineers, trades, compliance, environmental, etc.)  
Experience or interest in championing and advocating safety.  
Experience in recognizing and managing workplace hazards.  
While not a prerequisite for application to this requisition the selected employee will be required to maintain qualifications as an electrical worker and a lock out tag out authorized employee.

Pay Range



$117,900.00 - $184,300.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.


The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
