We are seeking a motivated student web developer to join a small team that develops and maintains a WordPress website focused on digital accessibility. This is a great opportunity for someone with foundational web development skills to gain hands-on experience with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, usability, and accessible web development.

The National Center on Accessible Digital Educational Materials & Instruction (NCADEMI) uses our website to share resources to schools across the country to support them in creating accessible learning materials for learners with disabilities. 

Working for NCADEMI you will gain: 

  • Hands-on experience working on a production WordPress website. 
  • Experience using Git in a collaborative development workflow. 
  • Opportunities to build skills in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, and Bootstrap. 
  • Training and experience in accessible web development. 
  • Mentoring and feedback from experienced web developers. .

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain features for a WordPress website using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, and PHP.
  • Identify and troubleshoot bugs and test changes before public release. 
  • Use Git and GitHub to collaborate on code and manage changes. 
  • Learn and apply digital accessibility and usability principles to development practices. 
  • Collaborate with team members to plan, review, test, and improve website features. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. 
  • Ability and willingness to learn new web development technologies and  troubleshoot technical problems.
  • Ability to reliably work 15-20 hours per week. 
  • Ability to receive, learn from, and respond to feedback. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with WordPress or another content management system.  
  • Familiarity with Git or other version control tools. 
  • Experience with Bootstrap or similar front-end frameworks.  
  • Experience with web accessibility and usability. 

Additional Information 

  • This is an in-person, on-campus position. 
  • Hours: 15-20 hours/week between 8 am-5 pm weekdays. 
  • Flexibility around school schedules.
