Social Media and Marketing Assistant (FWS)

The Department of Philosophy is looking for a creative, reliable undergraduate to help us tell the story of philosophy at Howard. You will build our presence on Instagram, design print materials for our hallway and events, and dig into the department's own history to surface stories worth telling. This is a great fit for a student interested in marketing, communications, design, journalism, or content creation, and no philosophy background is required.

What you'll do

Social media and design

  • Plan and post weekly Instagram content and maintain a simple content calendar
  • Produce a recurring interview series featuring philosophy majors, minors, and faculty (short-form video, Reels, or photo plus quote)
  • Design flyers and digital graphics for department lectures, colloquia, and student events
  • Refresh the bulletin boards in the Locke Hall corridorĀ
  • Create recruitment-facing content: alumni spotlights, "what you can do with a philosophy degree," course preview posts before registration

Department history and archives

  • Research and document the department's history, including compiling a verified list of past chairs of the Department of Philosophy with dates of service
  • Turn that research into a "Department History" content series for Instagram and a corridor display

What we're looking for

  • Current Howard undergraduate with Federal Work Study eligibility
  • Comfortable making and editing short videos and graphics on whatever tools you already use, such as Canva, CapCut, InShot, or the built-in Instagram and iPhone editors
  • Strong writing and a good eye for visual detail
  • Curiosity about historical research and willingness to spend time in the archives. Prior experience is not required
  • Self-directed, organized, and consistent week to week
  • Interest in philosophy is a plus, not a requirement
