Environmental Scientist Aquatic Biologist
McAfee Safety Analysis, Inc. (MSA) is seeking a qualified Environmental Scientist / Aquatic Biologist to support an anticipated multi-year environmental monitoring and watershed support project in Forsyth County, Georgia.
The position will support water quality and biological monitoring, stormwater and watershed compliance activities, environmental data collection and analysis, regulatory reporting, and related field investigations.
This position is contingent upon contract award.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct water quality and biological monitoring in streams and watersheds.
- Perform or support fish and benthic macroinvertebrate sampling, identification, and taxonomy.
- Conduct dry-weather stormwater outfall screenings and field investigations.
- Collect, document, manage, and analyze environmental field data.
- Support MS4, Watershed Protection Plan, NPDES, and stormwater compliance activities.
- Assist with environmental monitoring reports, technical memoranda, and regulatory documentation.
- Support Georgia EPD data entry and reporting requirements.
- Assist with illicit discharge investigations and watershed assessments.
- Support stormwater inspections, BMP evaluations, and other watershed technical activities as assigned.
- Coordinate with certified laboratories and project personnel regarding sampling, analytical requirements, QA/QC, and environmental data.
- Follow applicable EPA, Georgia EPD, and other federal, state, and local environmental requirements.
- Maintain accurate field documentation and project records.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Fisheries, Natural Resources, Water Resources, or a closely related field.
- Professional experience in environmental monitoring, water quality sampling, biological assessment, watershed monitoring, or related environmental fieldwork.
- Experience with fish and/or macroinvertebrate biological monitoring and taxonomy.
- Knowledge of water quality sampling procedures and environmental field documentation.
- Familiarity with Georgia and federal environmental regulations.
- Experience with or knowledge of Georgia EPD, NPDES, MS4, Watershed Protection Plans, stormwater programs, or related regulatory requirements.
- Strong technical writing, data management, and reporting skills.
- Ability to perform outdoor fieldwork under varying weather and site conditions.
- Ability to travel to field locations throughout Forsyth County and surrounding areas as required.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Current Scientific Collecting Permit applicable to biological monitoring activities in Georgia.
- Experience obtaining or maintaining applicable Georgia Department of Natural Resources (GADNR) and/or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) permits.
- Demonstrated experience with Piedmont-region fish and macroinvertebrate communities.
- Experience conducting biological monitoring and taxonomy for fish and macroinvertebrates.
- Previous experience supporting municipal MS4, stormwater, watershed protection, or environmental monitoring programs in Georgia.
- Working knowledge of Georgia EPD reporting templates, databases, and regulatory procedures.
- Experience with dry-weather outfall screening and illicit discharge detection/investigation.
- Experience with stormwater plan reviews, BMP assessments, drainage investigations, floodplain review, H&H modeling, or related watershed technical services.
- Experience coordinating with certified/accredited environmental laboratories.
- Previous environmental consulting or government/municipal project experience.
Compensation
Compensation will be based on the candidate's education, relevant professional experience, Georgia environmental regulatory experience, biological monitoring and taxonomy expertise, applicable permits/certifications, and overall qualifications.
Employment Contingency
This position is contingent upon McAfee Safety Analysis, Inc. receiving contract award for the anticipated Forsyth County environmental monitoring and watershed support project.
