Promotion and International Relations Intern

Nebraska Corn Board and U.S. Meat Export Federation Internship

The Nebraska Corn Board manages the corn checkoff investment by working to increase the value and sustainability of Nebraska corn through promotion, market development and research.

The mission of USMEF is “to increase the value and profitability of the U.S. beef, pork and lamb industries by enhancing demand for their products in export markets through a dynamic partnership of all stakeholders.” Simply put, USMEF is “putting U.S. meat on the world’s table.” Learn more at usmef.org.

Timeframe

Mid-May through Mid-August 2027, for at least 10 consecutive weeks on location

Duties & Responsibilities

Intern would be mentored and assigned responsibilities on a day-to-day basis by the USMEF staff. Students will obtain a working knowledge of the following:

Administrative duties
Read and analyze market trends and current events from global offices
Assist with coordinating international teams visiting the U.S.
Represent USMEF at various industry meetings/events and report back to staff
Research consumer trends in foreign markets for various staff presentations and visits
Opportunity to meet with USMEF members and executive committee
Gain an understanding of global trade, market access and strategic marketing programs
Participate in discussions regarding U.S. production agriculture practices and how they affect our export markets
Attend USMEF’s Spring Conference in Minneapolis, MN, May 25 – 27, 2027, to gain a better understanding of the organization and membership sectors
Complete special projects designed to build industry knowledge, professional skills and experience working in a collaborative office environment.
Develop and deliver a final capstone presentation focused on export markets, global demand or trade-related topics, incorporating knowledge gained throughout the internship
Opportunity to travel domestically

Qualifications

Any student enrolled in a four-year university with the following qualifications:

Preference will be given to students who are junior standing or above
Agricultural background beneficial but not required
Background in livestock/meat science beneficial
Interest in the political process, trade and agricultural economics
Proven communication abilities in written and verbal forms of communications
Preference will be given to students attending a college or university in Nebraska

Recommended Coursework

Agricultural Statistics, Agricultural Policy, Animal Science/Meat Science, Agricultural Economics, International Agriculture/Marketing, Political Science or Marketing, and Communications

Stipend

The Nebraska Corn Board will provide a stipend which will be distributed by the USMEF, as well as one flight to and from Denver, or mileage reimbursement for one trip to and from Denver for the move. Housing suggestions will be provided. Intern will be responsible for providing a reliable form of transportation.
